I live in NY and I am 8 yrs old and my Daddy played this for me and it was beautiful. My eyes got moist for the emotions this song aroused in my heart.

This brought back childhood memories that go back more than 70 years. A younger girl and myself sang this as a duet when we were attending a PTA meeting at a little one room country school in Iowa in the year 1940.

this brings a lump to my throat my late father used to sing me to sleep when i was a baby. He was scottish but he knew all the verses to this beautiful song and he would lull me to sleep by crooning this song to me

I have to say this, I love this song so much. The melody line is so beautiful and peaceful, but most of the professional recording that I've listened to, the singer makes it so intense or something like that, and it's okay once or twice, but I feel it's too much for the song. You make it light and soothing, the way a lullaby was sort of meant to be sung. Thank you for helping me find one of the few professional recordings I like of this song. Thank you for keeping it traditional ;).

I'm in exile (night) with Wales as one of the last havens - so your song had me in tears...with hope. Thank you.

You are very welcome, my dear. I plan to send this to the gal who I sang it with. She is still living and we keep in touch. I talked to her a few weeks ago and asked her if she remembered it....and she did.

Hmmm... I'm not exactly sure what to say here. Perhaps you're confused because there is harmony. You'll notice I have an earbud in. I recorded the dulcimer part, then recorded the main vocal while filming. Finally I recorded the harmony part (also my voice) and finalized the mix and synched it to the video I took while I sang the main track... so I guess it is synched, but it's all legit. :)

The name of the one room school was THE BARBER SCHOOL. It was located in the northeast part of the state. It was in Chickasaw County...Richland Township. It was approximately 35 miles north and a little west of Waterloo, Iowa.

It's "lip sync" or "lip synch." It is an abbreviation for "lip synchronization." This is quite beautiful.

Just out of curiosity... which one room school? My grandma and great aunts would have been teaching in Iowa 70 years ago. :)
