It was before the chicklets time - but Salming was not just a tough player. He was about the best all around defenseman of that era . He could skate , carry the puck , shoot , great passer , block shots, he literally did everything well and yes he was one of the first euro's he was the first superstar and got abused like you can not imagine every night - he just took it - gave it out a bit as he got older but showed up and was the leafs best player every night for over a decade . With an original six team like that it can be controversial - but for me Salming was the greatest leaf player . The only other who would be close would be Keon - who famously got the philly flu - while Salming was getting pounded - literally assaulted on the ice - some of the flyers players were prosecuted .

What’s bullshit about the offside challenge is that the team gets 30 seconds to look at their iPad and make a decision. The rule was intended for more blatant offsides that are missed, not offsides by 1 inch.
