@@kevinthompson5461 not really? Stevie Y built that team from the bottom up and stacked them. The current GM literally had to do nothing to win those 2 cups recently.

The end justifies the means. Scotty coached that way. I like Tortorella, the way he handles himself with media and he coaches to win. He does the best he can with what he has. Trotz is that style coach as well, it's why these gentlemen keep getting jobs. I also really liked that Tampa era, they had a good team. We'll soon see how much John affected Marty's coaching style and how he draws off that experience. Go Habs Go!

I think he's referring to the hotel thing. If I'm not mistaken Bowman did that for all four (76-79) Cups. Don't think Bowman ever fought with players. He was pretty controlled emotionally.​@@daveyboy_

I’ve heard many players say after the fact that Torts was the best coach they ever had. Probably a nightmare when he was but more than likely made all players better

Yeah a buddy of mine compared him to Capt. Sobel from Band of Brothers the other day. He may be an SOB but he made the majority of the players under him better.

Sobel was a buffoon who bullied people under him and used their success to make himself look good. Kubrick would be a better comparison. He was competent and made people better for the sake of the cause.

@@ronaldkonkoma4356 Yeah that maybe true but most of the guys in E company agree that he was a great trainer. Also Stephen E Ambrose only interviewed a hand full of E company soldiers who were already pretty old. It's a great show, but don't take it for 100% truthful history.

The hotel room thing is used a lot in college football. Make sure they aren't partying before the game, but also team building.

Torts believes teams need drama, something to rally around. He's softened a bit but it still wears thin on teams. I think he'll be able to make Philly better, but Fletcher isn't going to build him a winner before Torts' style wears thin.

how the fuck did brad richards go in the 3rd round #64 overall? he should of been a top 10 pick forsure. the guy absolutely dominated in junior every year. scouting back in the day was hotdog water for real

@@charlisantini3403 well im just shocked he didnt go higher despite playing with Lecavalier, he produced great numbers.. look who went in the top 15... Jeff Heerema, just over a point per game in his draft year, Rico Fata, another guy with similar numbers, look up Michael Henrich... i just cant believe that guys scouting Lecavalier would overlook another great talent right infront of them

@@Gwarismetal I mean in all fairness, Vinny was an *exceptional* talent. You've heard the age old saying "the guy was so good he made great players look average"? Well there you go. Now, I'm not saying that was the case with Richards necessarily, but it wouldn't remotely surprise me if they just saw Richards as a prime roleplayer in tandem with a future superstar. Don't get me wrong though, I do think scouting even today is still some trash for the most part, but guys smarter than I are the ones in charge of it so I won't tell them they're doing their job straight up wrong 😂

@@Gwarismetal Richards was elite while on Tampa. After he left he put up good but not mind blowing numbers. He under preformed for the rest of his career compared to the money he was getting paid. I'm not saying he wasn't a good player, he was, but he's a tad over rated at the same time.

Yes it’s Brad Richards. Torts was in Tampa from 01-08. It was his first full time head coaching job and he coached more games for the Lightning than any other team.

The reason why Tortz style no longer works is that there is no Vinny around to step up to him Its a simple fact that the game has gone soft for a vast majority of players. Only the winners understand the difference between playoff hockey and the regular season.

Torts is a dinosaur. An American Viktor Tikhonov. That archaic strongarm weight of coaching doesn't fly with today's Young generation of players. That's why Torts never lasts very long with teams.

Torts reminds me of the late Pat Burns when it comes to coaching. Their no nonsense tough guy approach puts the players on their heels when they first come in. That usually leads to short term success but then the message and style wears thin on the players and they tune them out.
