All US states names in French & how to learn them easily

Like all French nouns, the names of the US states in French are gendered. But you don't have to memorize all 50! In this video I share a few simple rules for getting the names and genders of US states right, every time.

I'll mostly be using Le Michigan, Le Maryland, La Virginie, La Pennsylvanie, La Caroline du Nord, La Floride and L'etat de New York but now I know the rules it will be easy to get right any others that come up. Thanks!

Very helpful! Thank you. Most people I know say Washington State to distinguish from Washington DC. And we simply say DC for Washington DC.

I generally say New York City, New York State, Washington State, and Washington DC (or just DC). I almost never say New York or Washington on their own, because they're too ambiguous. An exception is when you mention a city/town before the state: for example, Rochester, New York or Everett, Washington. Then it's obvious you're talking about the state.
