As I said on the pinned comment in my other Vendrick dialogue video, I had a few setbacks. Thankfully a friend grabbed the last piece of dialogue for me so I could release this video. The old video will remain up for a little while. Enjoy!

Both Vendrick's and Aldia's dialogues are the best in the series. Say whatever you want about the game, it's easily the best story and characters of the series. Vendrick's "seek strength, the rest will follow", his final words ,is still one of my favourite quotes in gaming history

Always remember. This man warns you about the Hollow Lord ending of Dark Souls 3 here in Dark Souls 2. The same thing happened to him as to the Ashen One. Some lady comes out of nowhere (Nashandra for Vendrick, Yuria for the Ashen One), tells you to become a True Monarch by killing strong things (the three Great Ones and the Giants for Vendrick, and the Lords of Cinder and your sorceror friend for the Ashen One, also keep in mind this is the *only time* the term True Monarch is used in Dark Souls 3), and tells you to claim the power of the Fire for yourself to empower yourself and your followers. But he recognized that she was manipulating him, and stopped at the end. She wanted him to throw away the "prop of life" that is the non-Hollow human form. He even basically tells you exactly what Yuria wants you to do. "With Fire, they say, a True King can harness the Curse. A lie. But I knew no better." "We would cast asids the prop of life, only to face greater hardship. Are you another such fool? Or something more..." Using Fire to harness the Curse is basically exactly what Yuria wants you to do in the Hollow Lord ending. And he tells you himself, that casting aside the human aspect of ourselves to embrace Hollowing, is just going to make things even harder.
@Thatguy-qx1uw Жыл бұрын
I think Vendrick simply lacked the means. The ashen ones creation was needed to cure the curse. The world created the ashen one in response to Gwyns curse. Dark souls 2 exists to show us that the characters know their in a loop and have been for centuries but can’t break it.
@joshplays9722 Жыл бұрын

@fatty10406 ай бұрын
@@galaxydragon1234 pretty sure ds3 mocked that idea anyways. The pursuer greatshield (Different name in ds3) calls it foolish to resist the curse. So Miyazaki definitely wants that ending to be viable.

Yeah, the hollows of Londor fail to realize that while hollowing is the original form of humanity and all other forms of life, without our humanity, our soul, the fragments of the Dark Soul, we cannot be attuned to the Darkness that is to come. Look at the sky in the Lord of Hollows ending. There is no darkness, only an eclipse. The world remains unbalanced.

5:09 "Seek strength... the rest will follow" seems to me like it is in part a reflection on Vendrick's banishment of Raime. We know that Raime harbored suspicions about Nashandra and tried to warn the king, but lost in a duel to Velstadt who remained loyal. He left to seek greater strength, realizing that knowledge with no power to enact it is useless... it kind of seems like Vendrick has come to the same realization, that no matter what path you would seek, you must gain the power necessary to take you there first. This also has a lot of tie ins to Berserk. I really love this line!
@RockoEstalon5 ай бұрын
He tells you that seeking "power" is in vain though, he coveted power and failed, the cylce kept on going. His "Strenght" means that you should seek the resilience to overcome rather than power. The cycle keeps on going becasue the world can accept both Fire and Darkness.

Recently finished this game. When i first entered Vendrick’s area i felt bad for him and didn’t attack. At the time i didn’t know that he was Vendrick. I thought he was just a guard that had lost his purpose and wandered aimlessly. I approached the armor set, thinking it was a body. It was so dark, i was unsure. When i finally lit a torch i started to piece things together; the crown, the armor, realizing the “guard” wore a crown. I felt so awful for him.

@@finnish_hunter Okay i didnt wanna go nerd but here i go. Turning into a hollow is a consequence of the curse of the gods. The ring of fire in the dark sign in the chest of the humans is the curse that gwyn put upon humanity cause he was afraid of them. Gods cant turn into hollow cause they are not humans. All of this is what we see in The Ringed city DLC and what Aldia explained back in SotS. The face of Gwyn was because he linked the fire and was left in a ashen-like state, all burnt and stuff. The case of Nameless king it's way different because its inconsistent from what we know so i take it as: Fromsoftware forgot it or Wanted to relacionate it more whit gwyn to make clear that is his son.

@FlackBackTV2 ай бұрын
@@pato6738 Size in Dark Souls is usually used to represent someone's strength of Soul. Vendrick was essentially a King of Kings, Lording over the Old Iron King, Ivory King, and Sunken King respectively before their falls, and as we know the Old Iron King inherited Gwyns soul (Thanks to the NG+ soul drops), its likely that Vendrick inherited a great bounty of souls from his reign and war with the giants, perhaps more then Gwyn and his pantheon seeing as he was said to be the "Near True Monarch" (i.e he nearly does what our player character does in the true ending of DS2), so essentially Vendrick before the loss of his soul and Hollowing was a man likely as mighty as or mightier then the gods themselves, hence his colossal size and strength, even when Hollow.
