Hey ross. as a construction engineer that had to fight with mold myself i would suggest you following things (sorted by effectiveness): 1. get rid of those wet clothes in your flat, get a washing machine that has a drying function built into it. that will get you 70% of the way. (IMPORTANT: get a good brand and a model that is not older than 3 years. i had my fair share of experience with those dryer combos) 2. get the habit of opening ALL the windows twice or thrice a day for 5-10 minutes! and open the window of the room you use the most every 4 hours. you have to do this even after the mold problem is gone. some flats are just so poorly built that you have to do this to stop mold from growing. (even in winter !) 3. get an ELECTRIC dehumidifier. 4. clean the mold spots with some aggressive solution and a brush. let the solution soak in a few minutes. if you do these 4 steps i guarantee your mold problem will stop in the next few days. just keep on ventilating by opening the windows all the way multiple times a day (so often that it almost seems ridiculous) and letting the dehumidifier running at least 10 hours a day as long as you stay in that flat. and by the way, those black/green/brown spots on the outside of the buildings. those are algea and dirt. mold does not thrive in a well ventilated area like the outdoors. mold needs high humidity and darkness. also get a hygrometer and mount it on the spots where the mold was, about 50% humidity if ideal for the humans. never let it go above 60% or you will get mold on the walls.

Thanks tremendously for all the support. I made this just hoping for some understanding from everybody while I go dark and it looks like I'm getting that in spades. I've abandoned the idea of staying here any longer than I have to and will be working towards simply getting out of here ASAP (and get a building inspector to look at my next place). I also have air filters since making that and am looking into a dehumidifier. This will take some time and I plan to minimize my computer usage until I have a clean environment, but I'll try to respond to all emails once I do. Thanks again!

If you do not own the flat, get out as soon as you can. This will take a long time to cared for. I took me six months of work cutting away all mold infected wood in my bathroom and replacing it. If it is several buildings, there is a good chance the owner can't pay for it anyway.

has for an inspector I would not recommend most of them do a poor job mostly to cover their ass. get a few tools like a humidity sensor termometor , small scraper , good flash light (not the shity thing you showed us), random screwdriver and over small tools ... And do the inspection yourself. Basically fresh paint in only certain area are suspicious. Defenitely ave à good look in the duckworc if any ( you might need a small miror for this (dentist tools are a good idea)), check the rooms airflow (no tools required jut a humid finger), pay extra atention to the baseboard and any kind of corner ( having a mignifing lens might comme handy), depending on the tipe of wall removing a socket or two might be a good idea, last but not least pay extra atention to the window seals and their water evacuation system pour some water to check the flow if you have to. just some quick tip from my personal how to check out a new place .

Ross, it's not normal for inspectors to come to your apartment and effectively rule it unfit for *breathing* in. No wonder the clothes don't dry. It looks like you're right about the building as a whole, too. I think the source is in the walls of the building itself. I'd say I hope you can move soon, but I think the better word here is 'evacuate'. @PiterburgCowboy6 жыл бұрын
Nono, this isn't Plattenbau, Plattenbau was build to last at least (they have no soul, but they still stand today). This is cheap drywall and very bad insulation made just from mineral wool. Hot in summer, cold in winter. You can't build cheaper than that. In autum and winter all the moist is going to be sucked into the insulation, you'd have to heat permanently to evaporate this untill summer. This is the best receipe for mold. Seems like this whole block was build this way, they'd need to rip off the drywalls and replace the whole insulation, nobody will pay for this. This block is doomed and bad for your health. I kind of feel pitty for the landlord, if he only bought a house in this block, he was ripped off too. Plattenbau has bad insulation too, but in a very different way. Edit: you can't have the "mystery hole" at 2:20 in a plattenbau. This was an electritian, who screwed a hole for either an outlett or a switch, made a mistake, and they didn't even bother to cover it up... Ross, move!

Paranoid? It's not just the district, it's whole Poland. Heck, for a half a century they've been munching on the Chernobyl fallout and now they're running out. What do you think they're gonna do? Now Duda, he is all theirs, i mean look at his face, he probably is just a big mushroom, they all are. Why would the ministry of defence not buy chlorine bombs otherwise? Remember, chlorine kills them, allays keep a gas cylinder full of chlorine handy. Why don't they let you take chlorine gas to the planes? They control them and use them to spread chemtrails. You don't really need to be afraid of chemtrails if you take MMS regularly. It's just a bunch of spores and nuclear waste to feed them. That's why the radiation is higher on the plane. If you really need to fly, have a chlorinated water on hand, you can also crush pool chlorine tablets and put it in the toothpaste and in those coffee sugar packets, you may need it later.

Mold and electrical issues at the same time reeks very much of water, be it from rain or a leaking pipe, getting into the walls. That could turn out to be a massive problem with the building itself and likely wouldn't be done with a little renovation here and there. Ventilation may be bad, but I fear that the mold you see *on* the walls may only be the tip of the iceberg.

@RingingResonance6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, could be that the rain caused the ground to shift and the buildings foundation is compromised causing the building to shift and your wall to crack leading to cracks in the roof and maybe even damaged piping in the walls or down lower in the foundation where the humidity from that is seeping up into your room. The possible foundation issues could also be causing the electrical problems but is most likely to be from water/humidity. In other words, move out ASAP, the building should probably be condemned like you said. Until then see if you can get a dehumidifier like others have mentioned and maybe an air filter. Also check your furnace/HVAC unit for that same mold if you have one, and use a good filter on it. That mold is likely very dangerous to your health.

@ravenbh6 жыл бұрын
I am sure its been said in the comments but I'll say it too. The mold is most most likely starting in the wall/insulation. My best guess is around the window frame. If that is where its coming from, the only way to stop it is to break open the wall remove the mold and replace the insulation. The Bathroom with no light is another likely source. Humid conditions (Shower and washer) in a dark room is a prime location. If possible pull out your washer and look at/in the drain/ drain hose. If there is mold there then by washing your clothes you could be spreading it, it takes only one spore. As for your computer, I know you said you smelt around it but have you opened the case? Being an enclosed space with warm temps and a humid room spores may be being sucked up into it and blown out. Then there is the mold spot you showed. Only seeing a few spots clearly it looked to me like black mold. Though any mold can be harmful, If it is black mold it's deadly and VERY hard to get rid of. There is a few temporary measures you can do in the mean time. 1) Rent or borrow a few UV lamps and leave them on in the bedroom and bath for 24-48 hours. This wont kill the mold in the wall but will at least push it back. 2) if possible remove the drain hose from your washer and either replace it or drowned it in bleach. If that is not possible run a few sheets or other fabrics you no longer need 3 or 4 times with a good amount of bleach. Running CLR in the washer can work also. make sure to run clean water through a few cycles afterwards. 3) Open your computer case and look for any discoloration or rust. If there is take a rag and some rubbing alcohol and clean as much of the inside case as you can. Hit the areas you cant clean with the rag or If there is no discoloration, hit the inside with a can or two of compressed air and leave it open to light. Make sure there is no power going to the PC to avoid shock an in both cases get in the power supply with a few good shots of air. 4) Lastly go over the bathroom ceiling walls and corners with bleach and get any spots you see. Then cover the area with an oil base paint or clear coat. If that is not possible get a can or two of WD-40 or similar oil base product. Spray it into a rag and go over where the spots are/were, hit the corners and creases, then hits around your windows inner and outer edges and long that crack. The oil in the WD-40 makes it difficult for mold spore to stick and regrow. It should buy you a little time. Even if it is not black, mold of any kind can be hazardous. USE THAT MASK while doing ANY the above. If you dont you could breath the spores in your lungs it could be dangerous. If you are already having problems breathing or feeling ill you might wanna see a doctor. I worked in a trailer home where black mold was growing in/on the walls. It had already killed a dog and sent the tenant to the hospital. Lets just say that it was so bad the place was deemed a bio-hazard and we needed to end up tearing down the trailer so it's no joke. Hope this helps.

This was recently done to a neighbour and they had to completely move EVERYTHING (their entire lives) out of the place completely into storage basically, because all the walls and ceilings and some floors had to be ripped out to be re-insulated properly, and then everything rebuilt internally. Was an absolute nightmare and of course took months longer than predicted by the contractor, so they were out of there for over a full year. Luckily they had another place to stay during this time but most of their stuff still had to be kept in storage because there wasn't room. Utter chaos, all coz people wanted to skimp on using the proper materials in construction many years ago (at least in their case, dunno if it's the same with ross but seems likely).
@SNOUPS46 жыл бұрын
Maybe one of your neighbours is dead, and has been for months. Happened to my bro, once (not dying). On another note, the greenish "seepages" on the outside walls is something normal; I've had that on many houses, and none was infected inside; it's just the same as what you get on rocks: tiny lichen, algae, whatever, but usually not fungi.

Its not the nastiest smell, but it is something the most ancient parts of the brain recognize as being bad.) Nonetheless, I thumbed you up in the hope Ross sees this. I have been wrong before.

I agree probably not a corpse. But yea à bit of algee outside is totally normal.

Yeah this happened to my neighbor. They didn’t find him for a week. The whole block smelled unmistakably of death when they disturbed the body getting him out. It’s not musty. It’s a smell unique to itself. Kinda sickeningly sweet

okay, *serious advice* time: 0. realize that the mold WILL kill you if you don't get rid of it. 1. periodically treat the entirety of the interior with bleach, or with specialized chemicals. 2. use salt lamps to dry and sterilize the air itself. 3. don't dry clothes inside the apartment, hang them out the window, or - and this is preferable - buy a dryer (put it in the living room if you have to). 4. install additional active ventilation (shafts with fans). 5. if you can't afford this, launch crowdfunding campaign. 6. read other comments, there's some really good advice there.

Good god, Ross, that's horrible. Seems like the building either allowed pooled water to seep in from above from the rain, or it's infiltrating from the ground below, and it's soaking the concrete. Couple that with the bad ventilation you mentioned, and suddenly zombie-making mold. Depending on how much organic matter there was in the sand used for the mortar, it gets even worse. If a concerned person could look up when this building was constructed, and check if the date is still within the Polish law's legal warranty by the construction company responsible, that'd be amazing. Anyway, hope things work out and you're either able to leave this fungus farm or it gets repaired, brother. (Also, since you have no light in certain rooms, get a Wowtac A1 if you have Amazon coverage in Poland, the 20 dollars is worth it).

This puts his respiratory illness in perspective. Mold is no joke. It can cause lifetime problems. I've had a few run-ins with the nefarious fun-guys. :/ I hate to say it, but drying clothes in their house is probably making it an ideal environment for whatever the heck is growing in there. Certainly the changing weather isn't helping, either. I once had to deal with a landlord about a mold problem we were having at the time. TONS of mold in weird places. ( _Except_ my room which was always closed and had a PC running 24/7 which seemed to dry the air!) But, anyway, we just ended up moving. It would have taken months if not years of time in court to deal with landlord and even then it wasn't super clear if we would win or not. Man, what a rough spot for Ross to be in. :( Also, this video is like something out of a movie where they show people talking about some impending doom or something. :P

Ok I'm only an architecture student at university, not a fully qualified architect, so don't take what I say as gospel, but from looking at the outside walls on your building it looks like the walls haven't been properly insulated against moisture. Normally with brick or block or concrete buildings the inside of the external wall is lined with waterproof sheets to stop water seeping in, and it looks like your building might have some gaps in between the waterproofing, so water is seeping in and then you've got lots of damp spaces literally inside the walls.

That sounds like it would be harmful in the long run and not very effective to begin with. Considering this video has significantly fewer views than the vast majority of his other videos, and how persnickety KZbin is about having consistent, high quality uploads. KZbin wants consistent uploads with high view counts. Suddenly uploading less enticing-to-watch videos could affect his channel's performance in KZbin's algorithms that determine search results and your recommended videos. That is, assuming the video gets properly monetized anyway. A lot of videos get flagged for demonetization for absolutely not reason by a crappy AI, such as Ross's video chats. It could be 24 hours to several days before he actually gets any part of that pocket change. If you ever want to support a KZbinr, give them five bucks. Seriously, it's a lot more than they'll likely get out of you from ad dollars. CGP Grey made a video in which he says that on average, a view is worth a fourth of a cent. At that rate you'd have to watch 2,000 videos to equal the five bucks I recommended you donate. You can even buy merchandise if the person is selling any (I'm holding out for Ross to start selling some), or get a KZbin Red subscription, which I've heard KZbinrs say they get a proportionately large amount of income compared to ad-supported viewers. With that option, a portion of your $10/month subscription gets divided among the channels you watch based on how much you watch them and it's not affected by advertisers who don't want ads playing on a video of an ugly long-haired man talking to a camera. TL;DR Don't mine for views, instead give your favorite KZbinrs direct monetary compensation, even as little as a dollar, so we all can be independent of shitbag advertisers.

This, it might be due to a small leak somewhere and almost certainly due to improper ventilation. Issues like this don't tend to get better without fixing the moisture problem. Hang drying your clothes inside doesn't help, but I've been there and you have to do what you have to do. Mold can lead to really nasty health issues over time, so it's not something to take lightly.

The immigration office is backed up due to the crisis in Ukraine. It's gonna take them a while to deal with that. As for affordability, stay away from big cities if possible. A ~70k population city is going to have faaaar cheaper housing than Warsaw (like, 60% lower), even if it's fairly close to the capital. Moreover, in a smaller city it's gonna be easier to find an apartment where the landlord won't care about a residence permit (especially since you're American, and older folks here still tend to view america as some kind of a utopian paradise inhabited solely by paragons of virtue).

The streaks on the outside of the building are pretty common due to rain and weather in general. It does look like a problem with ventilation which is something they should try and fix asap. It might start local but once it spread into the walls etc., it becomes and entirely different beast. Few years back a construction firm in my vicinity where forced to tear down about a dozen completely new houses due to mold. Its not healthy to breathe in the spores (or damp stagnant air) and its something thats taken very seriously... by most =D.

Could be screwed completely. If it's a renovated old commieblock, I heard the insulation can worsen ventilation and mold starts growing in the walls themselves. Even if you scrape everything it will be back after some time. This is what happens when you use "temporary housing" for 50+ years. Not sure if this is the case and I'm not too knowledgeable about this, just saying. Best of luck to you Ross.

Drying your cloth indoor is a problem, there's washing machines with integrated dryers. Also look behind all furniture that is close to exterior walls and make sure its rear-ventilated. German here. My entire society is collapsing? You sure you're not getting played by the media? I mean we got more refugees but we always were a place with a lot of immigration for the last few decades. I never experienced anything negative and don't know anyone got beat up or something. They're mostly families with children. Besides the few occurrences the media reports for clicks, crime rate is going down according to statistics. So, it's not cheap and not ideal but not the downfall of our society.
@handsomebrick6 жыл бұрын
"Not cheap and not ideal" would be an understated way of describing the situation in Germany during the high Turk immigration period of the 60s and 70s, I can't even imagine the problems they're getting now.
@HiSodiumContent6 жыл бұрын
The problems they're getting now is that the media is demonizing these immigrants and refugees to the point that a lot of them can't find work. Couple that with ISIS recruiters offering them something to do, and you have a self-perpetuating problem. Disingenuous politicians play on fear tactics to garner support from the masses, knowing that immigration and refugees are a hot topic, when a lot of the stuff they (immigrants and refugees) are accused of is a lot of hot air. These are people who want to work and be integrated in the communities they are trying to move to. When they realize that the locals reject them solely based on their citizenship status, those ISIS recruiters become a lot more convincing. These people are trying to get away from the bullshit, but bigots and liars are forcing them right back into it. In conclusion, quit being dicks. They're people, not problems, and when everyone starts treating them like humans instead of villains and outcasts they'll become happy, productive members of the country they are in.
