I just did a blind w those shelfers..RB, 1920, and JDSiBBP and the Rare Breed edged out the 1920…the JD wasn’t close but my bottle drinks hot.

I have two JDSBBP's. One is 128.6, the other is 131.3. The first is SO much better, the latter is HOT.

For that price; it’s a steal S tier amazing bottle lol. I get it for $35 and it’s still that good, if I got it for $26 it would break bourbon

I have both the Rare Breed, and a Russell's Single Barrel store pick. I prefer the Rare Breed, but the single barrell is still soooo good.

In KC we can pretty much always get 101 for 23 and less. Handle 42 or less. Can’t imagine it not being in my house. Rare breed and russels single barrel reserve are two of my splurge bourbon favorites. That’s right. I love a lot of bourbon that cost 35 and less. Russels 10 is one of them. I also tend to like the russels better but very close. I really enjoy this tier list series. Thanks!

Without a doubt, Wild Turkey is a heavy go-to. My pallet doesn't care for ryes either. With that being said, from great to best, I love the 101, the Russell's Reserve 10yr, the Russell's Reserve Single Barrel, and the Rare Breed. The two best might go either way on any given day. I also found a dusty bottle of 2016 Russell’s reserve store pick single barrel sitting on a shelf at a local hole in the wall for $39.99 and it was for a completely different store. Not sure how it ended up there but it’s in my home collection now 🔥

Had to buy a Longbranch as part of a Russells single barrel store pick. Yes, the Russells (Camp Nelson B) was worth the upcharge but that Longbranch? I dont hate it 😅

I agree about Kentucky Spirit’s price. It’s double to triple the price here. WT101 is like 22-25 here and KS is like 60-70. I will say I heard most of the KS’s are at least 8yrs where as the WT101 is MAYBE 6-8 although I think that has been called into question ever since the bottle design change. I compare this to the KC9, standard is like 30 and the SiB is like 50 but it also adds 20 proof points! And is 9yrs old! I know I know different flavor profile but still.

The Russell’s single barrel is top tier Whiskey. Its on back order here in Wisconsin right now, so I’m nursing the last of my bottle. My favorite shelf bottle over Rare breed ,JDSBBP & 1920. An absolute flavor bomb. You nailed this list.

MY standard rrsb was better than the store pick...BUT...Both are great. I couldn't imagine how great Rare breed is non-chilled cause the regular is great as is.

I think I would rank the same. Just got a Russell’s 13 for the first time and I like the single barrel better, especially since the 13 is sooo much more, but the 13 is still really good. Cheers

I’d agree. I’ve tried the 13, but since I don’t own it, I didn’t want to include it. The fact that anybody can go get a single barrel and it’s still as good as it is, it’s a no brainer. Just go get that bottle, drink 4 pours of it, and BAM practically Russell’s 13 🤣

Within the Wild Turkey product line, I agree with putting 101 in the A tier. If you were ranking budget bottles specifically, then it is S tier. Nerd.

I like to think of S tier bottles being my “desert island bourbons” whereas my A tier bottles are ones I love. A is still a great grade in my book lol

Rare Breed NCF = S+ Agree with pretty well all of your rankings as well as the fact that Longbranch is insanely disappointing; what a waste of a pretty bottle ;)

Good job on the review!! I Always keep 1.75’s of Gentleman Jack and Basil Baydens for newbies, I’ll be adding LongBranch to that list. I also keep a 1.75 of WT 101, which is almost empty!

I drink them all rye wheated bourbon finished scotch Irish. They are delicious to me. The rare breed rye I can’t find my store had it but it’s been gone for a few months. I buy the 101 all the time. The Wild Turkey brand is one of the best in this country IMO.

If a barrel has lost proof and ends up under the 110 proof point, it then gets relegated to becoming a KY Spirit. (That certainly may not be the case with all of them) When doing an onsite in-rickhouse pick, it's tried at barrell proof and I dont think they even know the ABV% at that time. But that's what we really need: Russell's store picks bottled AT BARREL PROOF baby!
