Sexton is legit one of my favorite whiskeys. I found it at a Target one day and fell in love from the first sip. Shortbread up front with some sour fruit in the middle and a deep dark chocolate finish that lasts for days. Delicious!

I have a bottle of stout caskmates in my collection and I see that as my go to Irish bottle (due to availability in Nebraska) and I had a similar right-brain experience that Daniel had with the Green Spot. The first time I tasted it and nosed it, I was instantly taken back to when I was younger and my mom and grandma were baking banana bread on Christmas Eve before the rest of my family came over. So now whenever I pour myself a glass I get filled with that scent and nostalgia.

For clarity, regarding Jameson Caskmates Stout. Originally stout barrels were sourced from Franciscan Well brewery, but like said demand skyrocketed. In order to keep up with demand, IDL bought 8 degree brewery. It's also first brewery owned by Pernod Ricard.

I haven't had opportunity to try a lot of Irish whiskey yet, but so far my favourite is Teeling small batch (the rum cask finish one). There's just something about the prettiness of Irish whiskey that blends well with hints of rum. I hope Teeling can keep this expression around when their stock of Cooley barrels runs out.

Thanks to Daniel’s comment in another video, I now maintain a big bottle of Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition *AT ALL TIMES* for what I call “mindless, background dram-sipping”. Easily good enough for when you choose to pay attention to it and sniff before each sip, inexpensive, friendly and great to sip without feeling you’re missing something if you choose not to sniff, swish and study each sip. Great go-to for almost any occasion!! 👍🥃

The original Teeling Stout Cask is one of my favourites. Casks sourced from Innis &Gunn. It's delectable and rich, with a bit of kick. I hadn't seen it at retail since last year. Then lo and behold, I walked into a store just north of Calgary, and discovered a handful of bottles on the shelf! They also had the second edition (200 Fathoms casks), but the I&G is that slight bit better, imo. I've only had the Jameson's Stout Cask once, but I was underwhelmed. A little too soft & subtle for me...but it's about half the cost of the Teeling, so...

Years ago I had the pleasure of my wife getting me a 21 yr. Old Bushmills. I thought it was the best thing I ever tasted. Some day I want to go back and revisit it when I can afford now that I have expanded my whiskey tasting exponentially. But as I watch this I am tasting Powers gold label for the first time. For $30 in my area in December 2021 I'm quite happy with it as a budget whiskey and I would put it on this list

Just spent a month in Ireland. Teeling's tour was not only the best tourist thing in Dublin, it maybe was the best whiskey I tasted in a month of many tastings. But they were doing a Writer's Tears tasting at the Duty Free shop in the airport (I'd waited to buy there) and I ended up buying three different bottles of their whiskeys. The sherry finished one is my fave - blasts you with the sherry aroma, and almost tastes like a sweet cognac. So bizarre and intense. And not sold in the US, and in numbered bottles in a run of about 450. For only about $60 at that shop - costs more retail in shops there. Pretty special stuff.

Tried the Sexton for the first time at a whiskyfest a couple months ago & enjoyed it. Mind you, in that sort of environment you need a punchy product to get noticed (ie heavy sherry, or peat, etc) because of all the other things you're trying, so a 4yo full-matured in sherry casks fits that bill.

Glad you guys liked the Redbreast cask strength that much to put it as your number one but, I looked up your review on it only because I enjoy higher percentages neat and wanted to see if it was something to seek out. Absolutely not because T-Rex recommended it or liked it. I have 4 types of Whiskey/whisky that I'm after and that's Irish whiskey, Scotch, Bourbon and Japanese whisky. It's easy to find a bourbon at a high abv but, the rest are usually something I actually have to do some research on. Aberlour A'bunadh(already have), Ardbeg Uigeadail and Laphroaig Cask strength are on my Scotch list and I was considering Kaiyo Cask strength for my higher abv Japanese whisky.

Redbreast 15 is still my favorite non-ridiculously priced whiskey - ANY whiskey, let alone Irish. Green Spot is my favorite everyday whiskey. I've got a story about it, and I won't bore you with it ... Redbreast 27 is my favorite exotic whiskey - have only had one pour of it, and that'll probably be it for me ($700-$1000 per bottle). Amazing stuff, but can't set the cost aside - hard to fully enjoy.

You should try Jameson’s black barrel. So smooth. I’m not a huge whiskey drinker but black barrel really was a great experience. The stout for me was really vibrant. If you’ve had Jameson it’ll be like a heavier Jameson with a coffee/chocolate undertone. Still good as all Jameson.

Bought some in France which had been stocked by accident and was sold at a stupidly honest price. Now it is stocked on a regular basis and I drink too much of it. They do sell Redbreast here, but many people here work in Geneva and earn three times as much as French punters. Ls frontaliers they are called. I am thought to belong to that tribe. Unfortunately unlike them I don't earn an obscene lot of money. Still, long live Jameson!
