We are very excited to be launching our first ever all women's eco-guard training and recruitment opportunity for 15 women recruited among participants from 28 different villages in the Loma Mountains National Park in collaboration with the NPAA. Field officer, Samuella Bayo, leads a passionate, inspirational speech at our opening day in Mansofinia village.
Women are the backbones of communities. In rural Sierra Leone, they are typically tasked with domestic roles like cleaning, cooking and child care and rarely have opportunities outside of these traditional gender roles. Early marriage and pregnancy, inaccessibility to formal education, gender based violence and FGM are significant challenges faced by women in this country.
We aim to combat some of these challenges by offering women with more opportunities to empower themselves with knowledge, practical skills training and employment opportunities, and join our ever-growing conservation and wildlife protection mission.
More updates on this coming soon! This project is funded by USFWS.
