Psalm 96:9 reads as follow "O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth" (KJV). The Book of Psalms is filled with hundreds of poetic songs used by the children of Israel on the pattern of worship to Yahweh. Worship is honoring the Lord and submitting to His will.
True worship, in other words, is when God is in the first position in our lives and on our list of priorities. Thus True worship is a matter of the heart expressed through a lifestyle of holiness. God desires worship done in the Spirit and the truth. If your lifestyle does not express the beauty of holiness filled with exaggerated love for God, and excessive submission to God, you are yet to be a true worshipper.
God loved us first and the love of God is shed abroad in our heart by the Holy Ghost. We thank God for all the things he has done for us. Our worship to God must be toward the one who is worthy simply because of his identity as the Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent One, and not just because God is wealthy and able to meet our needs and answer our prayers. We must focus our practice of worship on the worthiness of God and not his wealthiness.
Do you worship God just only because of His miraculous signs and wonders? What if there were no evidence of such in your life? Would God still be worthy of your worship? Does your worship completely dependent upon the abundance of God's blessings upon your life? Do you only worship God for what he can do for you?
Though God dwells in the praise of His people and He chooses to respond to us through our worship. He will, however, search our hearts first; the other benefits that we tend to expect because we lift up our feeble hands and shout with our weak voices are worthless if our hearts are not right with God.
Thus, when we offer God our true worship, we are inviting him to inspect our hearts for anything that does not please him. We can be transformed into God's likeness because he will reveal the truth about the condition of our hearts as we worship him.
I invite you to make worship a non-negotiable priority in your life. Evaluate your expressions of worship so that through singing, declaring, and giving, you will "give to the LORD the glory he deserves.
