“Think of bonsai as picture and the pot is the frame.” that pretty much sums it up for me. Thank you sir.

Right! I immediately thought of tall narrow pictures creating a sense of expanse. I am wondering what direction a bonsai artist would train a tree in a pot that was 400mm long but only 80mm wide! Ive never seen a pot with those dimensions, but it "re-frames" what could be done. A whole new category of layout!!!

I'm 20 now and this man has inspired me to finally get into bonsai after years of loving house plants in general. I've always wanted to try bonsai, but it seemed so strange and intimidating. I was especially hesitant to start after accidentally killing a juniper bonsai I was given as a gift when I was about 11 because I over watered it in my excitement. He makes it seem so easy and fun though. I'm going to start with training a norfolk pine I already own into a bonsai, and I plan to create a ponderosa pine bonsai as soon as I have the chance. I got to see some beautiful examples of ponderosa pine bonsais at my local botanical gardens.

My Daughter received a Bonsai starter kit for Christmas of 2022. We live in America on the east cost in New Jersey. We both have been growing the seedlings together. While searching for more information about Bonsai, I found your channel... You are VERY informative and inspirational. I have been watching many of your videos Peter. I came across this older 4 year video and found it SUPER interesting in learning more about Bonsai... You explaining Bon Sai was 2 words caught my attention. Thank you for your wisdom and expert information. Agreed when you say there is no right or wrong way but a work of art. As our trees grow for a couple of years, we will be working them into Bonsai pots. Maybe we will order some from your establishment... Thank you...

I absolutely love your attitude! In one of your earlier video about taking care of Bonsais and how people don't realize they need to water the plant. And here, about the lady who thought she knew everything about bonsai. Brilliant! You have so much knowledge! Next time I am down south, I am hoping to pay your nursery a visit. Thank you for doing these videos. They offer so much more than all things bonsai.
@juliemumof32914 жыл бұрын
Janie - I wouldn't recommend starting off in bonsai by growing from seed. It will take many years before you have a plant that can then be turned into a bonsai... that is if you succeed with the seeds. Chinese Elm is a good starter tree for a beginner that you can get at good stockists. Hope you are enjoying this wonderful hobby.

Soon thereafter she found a book of yours in a second-hand bookshop, “A Guide to BONSAI” so she purchased it as a gift to me. I went to St Ives in 1967 a year after we got married and I did not meet Bernard Leach but nearly bought one of his large plates but £30 was to expensive for us - I bought a bedroom suite for £30, but had I bought that Leach pot, it would be worth £50,000 now! I did buy a small Tea Bowl made by William Marshall who worked at the Leach pottery then. I still have it.
