I've taken inspiration from you, Peter, and have grown, Crab apple, quince, Maples, Hornbeam from seed now and taken cuttings from a few Junipers now. Thanks for your great advice and videos.

The average person carries some baggage, which makes them stuck in a “surviving each day” mentality. I found bonsai has made me more patient and more able to visual long term progression, rather than daily survival. It must help a lot of people

I love germinating seeds. This year was the first that I collected Japanese Maples. They're stratifying in my garden now, and hopefully, I have a bunch of seedlings in the spring. I just don't understand Peter's comments about Wisteria, though. I just can't get it to germinate.

You showed some oak sprouts growing in between... You know birds hide the seeds in the ground for winter reserve. Oaks can be used for bonsai, many like an old oak bonsai. There beautiful and native to North-West Europe. Why dont you try a few yourself and cultivate them as bonsai. I would love to see the results. Many thanks for the so learningfull videos and the insights of the Herons nursery.

It’s funny how many times I’ve done such a similar process, with really similar starter material, yet never once have my creations looked half as nice as anything you’ve shown. Don’t get me wrong, I adore each and every one of my little trees, but they’re not as pretty no matter how hard I might try. Thank you so much for the inspiration

Very nice video! To propagate from cuttings and seeds is so nice and easy and a real enrichment for our hobby. And also: it costs about nothing and is really very well possible to do for everyone. And maybe, maybe it also teaches us a bit of patience: you can't do without it when creating, nursing and taking care for bonsaï, I think... I salute you, mr Chan!

As disappointing as this may be, it is done for very good reasons, some of which are: the introduction of pests and non-native, invasive plants that can cause great harm to native horticulture and environments.

I used to be an avid seed collector. I'd grab seeds from anything I came across, with boxes of seeds in little baggies. I was always amazed when some of the older seeds would still germinate, even after 5-10 years.

Peter, love the video and the info, just one suggestion however, you may benefit from investing in a lapel microphone such as a Shure or RODE, etc. It's very difficult to hear you when a plane is flying overhead or your cameraman is too far away from you, or when the wind is blowing. Just a thought.

I worked in a garden centre years ago for a while. They were dumping bags of flower seeds & i asked if i could take a bag home. I put the bag in my shed & forget about it. 5 years later i found the bag & i planted some seeds, they all came up!!. & over the next ten years i planted more they also all grew, i was amazed!!

just try it, they may surprise you 😀. Usually, even if it is a hybrid, they should germinate. They may have different leaves or fruits than the parents, but grow they will. That is the nature of seeds.

Air layering or cloning the "parent" tree is the best way to get an exact copy but who knows what grand tree you'll get if the seeds do germinate.
