Our Dracaena is 40 years old. It's as tall as a palm tree. It bloomed many times and somehow survives. It blooms yearly and I adore the smell of its flowers. It gets minimal care, but somehow manages to do ok. We consider it part of the family.

That truly sounds so glorious! Congratulations for maintaining it so well! I would love to see a picture of it. I have had my dracaena compacta for 5-6 years and just in the last year it’s new leaves appear paler shade of green than the others, it’s not unsightly but I am wondering if it is a nutrient issue. Do you have any advice or suggestions ? Thank you.

This is encouraging!! I just got a 2' D Candelabra a couple of weeks ago and planted it in a pons media which is working out well. I'm nervous about watering too much. I have been misting it with Brita water that has sat for 24 hrs . How often to fertilize and what kind??

WOW! That's very nice! I have taken a top of a leafless one that was going to just dry in the the sun. I put that stem section in saibro (red volcanic rock) and that stem section put out leaves but it didn't root. 2 years after, this spring, I decided to put it in water and it finally rooted! Now it's potted in, basically, Pumice + Coco Coir + Worm Castings. > : )

You are awesome! We were gifted our Dracaena at our son's funeral 12 years ago. We have struggled to keep it alive and now I have hope we will be able to care for it even longer. Thank you for making it easy to understand how to care for this plant! Also, I haven't heard mentioned if it is possible to plant the "flower" and get new growth from it? Does the flower really not serve any purpose to this plant? And when you say "self watering" is this favored from above or below in the planter?

About 70% of my dracaena leaves turned brown all of a sudden. I thought maybe I forgot to water it but now I think it was to close to the vent when I turned the heat on for winter. I cut the brown leaves off about 2 months ago and it's just now starting to grow new leaves. Just a friendly reminder to keep them away from hot air vents. 🙂

I've read that Dracaena can't tolerate fluoride and reacts by developing yellow or brown scorched areas on the leaf tips. Is that your experience as well? Perlite is added to most plant mediums/soil hear to improve aeration BUT it also contains high levels of fluoride which is a problem. My Dracaena's tips starting scorching and after research the perlite in my soil appears to be the culprit. I repotted my Dracaena in a mixture without Perlite. I hope that helps.

I cut both branches with the hope that they will grow new branches. But now the trunk of the plant start to become hollow, it feels like a loose skin with a thin stick inside. My question is should I separate the other plant that is still alive and is there a way to save the other plant?

I recently bought a LOT of plants. -A Dracaena being one of them. I never knew how much I'd love taking care of them. However, being the attentive person I am, I notice a small yellow spot on one of my lower leaves and researched what it meant. I found out root rot can cause this due to an excessive amount of water and instantly knew I was watering it too much. The source said 5-7 days, whereas I had been watering it daily. Glad I hadn't killed her! Thanks for this informative video!

Spider mites at winter? Pesky little $#!t$, i thought they only occur on humid area, they usually feast on my cannabis plants. Best way is to mist them once a week with neem oil, or if theres no flower i spray them with baking soda water
@marial49484 жыл бұрын
@@Helloyapfammily they actually don't like humidity, so they often occur in dryer winter months when heating systems dry out the air. But everything is relative. Your plants are just too attractive in any humidity. I want to try growing some this summer outside (in a locked greenhouse) since in Michigan it is legal now. I am not sure though how and where to get seeds and if it is safe since on federal level it is still not legal...

The flower blooms do not kill the plant. Yes it does suck more nutrients. The lower leaves may brown. But they live. Mine blooms every other year. The white flowers bloom only at night and close during the day. I love the sweet sweet smell that permeates the house at night. It also gives out a clear sticky sugary sap. I let all the flowers die off before I cut it.

@SwedishPlantguys6 жыл бұрын
Lili Hi, thanks for watching! I would just leave them if you think that they are still alive. Sometimes the leaves can recover a little bit if the damage haven’t been that severe. But if they look very bad or if they get worse then cut them off because then it’s likely that the cells have been damaged and the leaves can’t recover from that. / Swedish plantguys
