Me too! Or more presicely I'm using the good ol' ginseng as a donor and just keep airlayering new trees out of it and since the new shoots grow quite fast thanks to the potato roots, I've already gotten 6 trees out of that sucker, haha.

Hello there, I have ficus microcarpa 1:24 can you please let me know what is the best fertilizer to thicken the stem? Your response is highly appreciated.
@ThatBonsaiGuy11 ай бұрын
Actually the best thing to thicken the stem is to let the tree grow wild and not prune it back for a while. As any normal fertilizer will encourage growth you cannot go wrong there I think.

Question: I have a 4 month old ficus. It sprouted out sideways under soil surface and became another ficus several inches high. Is that an Ariel root or regular root. What should I do with it? Any suggestions? I'm a newbie. Haha. Thank you!
@ThatBonsaiGuy6 ай бұрын
You can let it grow a bit, and the next time you repot your ficus, and this new tree has developed its own roots, you can separate it from the main tree and pot it up in its own pot ;)

I have had a Ficus microcarpa for a few months now and at the middle of the summer I pruned and wired it. I've now noticed that one branch is losing leaves. What could the issue be?
@ThatBonsaiGuy5 ай бұрын
Is it only the one branch that is losing leaves? It could be that the branch was damaged/snapped while wiring and is dying off now. If all the other branches seem to be healthy, that would be the most logical explanation.
@teyr55 ай бұрын
@@ThatBonsaiGuy Actually that is true that branch snapped and I tried to tape it back if it could heal back. The rest of the leaves are fine but some of them have curled a little bit. I'm trying to figure out whether I'm using too much fertilizer or too little. Also some leaves have some dry areas but I'm confident that I'm not underwatering, could I be overwatering?

Can you get a bare branch to grow some leaves?

Yes, most ficus varieties can regrow leaves from bare branches (as long as the branch itself is not dead)

Can you Bonsai a Ficus bush! It's 5 ft.tall now!!
@ThatBonsaiGuy3 ай бұрын
Absolutely! Ficus normally buds back nicely, so you can shorten it and grow a nice new canopy
@sandradaeschler66203 ай бұрын
@@ThatBonsaiGuy Thank you sure would save a lot of time for large wide trunks I think 🤔.However budding depending on keeping your cuts above other blossoms or branches would have to be maintained from what I read ?? Stated that you cannot make your cuts beneath such blooms it wouldn't grow with new sprouts?
@ThatBonsaiGuy3 ай бұрын
@@sandradaeschler6620yes, when trunk chopping it should still grow new branches, even from older wood

@kieranaziz69252 жыл бұрын
How will you remove the side roots of the ficus gensing?
@ThatBonsaiGuy2 жыл бұрын
The plan is to prune quite aggressively. I have already done that with some other roots on this tree and it has recovered nicely. But of course with this side roots I would probably need to carve closely to the trunk to give it the desired shape. Then the risk of an infection in the trunk may be higher.
@kieranaziz69252 жыл бұрын
If you ever do that be sure to post it would love to see how you do it thanks.
