Great video on one of the best houses in history! I own four Guerlain myself-Héritage, Habit Rouge, Mitsouko, and Shalimar. The first two are classic masculines, and although the latter two are marketed as feminine, they come off quite masculine on my skin. Shalimar, in particular, emphasizes the smoky leather and musky civet on my skin, supported by that beautiful citrus, floral, and vanilla base. I’d liken its effect to something like Dior Homme Parfum. Really a shame more men don’t give this intoxicating beauty a try!

Very interesting. Last night while trying to decide what to wear today I noticed that I have much more Guerlain than any other house. Thank you for this very fun intro and informative video ! I heard (several times) a totally different -and far less romantic- story about the birth of Shalimar : a bottle of vanilline was accidently thrown in a batch of Jicky... But l'm partial to that story since Jicky is my favorite.😋 My favorite fragrances -beside my beloved Jicky- are Bois d'Arménie (I had a mini decant once and I'm so sad to know that I will never own a bottle), I have the "old" Shalimar light, Jardin de Bagatelle is the first Guerlain I ever smelled, and I have a few drops of the extrait de Vol de nuit. I almost forgot Herba fresca that I also love and thanks to you I'm going to try coconut fizz ! And Terracotta ! Thanks again !!!😘

I have some of the more obvious fragrances from their collections... Heritage, Habit Rouge, Vetiver, and the original L'Instant. Guerlain quickly became one of my favourite house. I have several from l'art et la matière and I also really enjoy les absolus d'orient. Even the classics are really good. I also wear Vetiver and Guerlain Homme 😁 I have Shalimar cologne and Souffle de parfum. I really like these ones as the original is a bit too vintage for me but yes totally unisex I agree.

Shalimar was the first real parfume I bought, when my friend and I were 15 years, she smelled this parfume on her older sister, but thought it was babypowder, because her sister was babysitting a lot. I do think its a shame that Guerlain was sold to LVMH. And I think its no coincidence that in 1995 Guerlain released (as far as I know) their first flanker, Un Air de Samsara. Nowadays its flanker after flanker with La Petite Robe Noir, L'Homme Ideal and Shalimar. And everytime a new flanker comes on the market they continue an old one. Very inflationary. I'd rather have Guerlain as a niche house just like they were for a 150 years. And when it comes to Thierry Wasser, I think Wafts from the Loft summarized it perferctly: Thierry Wasser is a very fine perfumer, but there are very fine perfumers and there is Guerlain. There is a shimmer of hope though, a young member of the Guerlain familiy is at perfumery school right now (I forgot his name), so maybe one day the house will be back under the reign of a Guerlain.

I couldn't agree more. I love Guerlain, I use only Guerlain, the fragrances are spellbinding, I get lost in them...up to Samsara that is. The fragrances that followed like Instant, Instant magique, Insolence are ...nice but not memorable. What followed these fragrances is not Guerlain. The variations of Shalimar not even ressemble this masterpiece, as for la petite robe noire, well, just a sweet gourmand fragrance like all the others actually on the market. Beautiful Nahema perfume, one of the best of the house, discontinued, is to be found only as EDP. It has nothing to do with the mesmerizing original Nahema. Powerful Chamade to be found only as EDT watered down, fade as the French say. I am not a fan of the absolus d'orient, they don't suit my skin, but they may be great on other people. Neither am I a fan of mon guerlain and all its variatoons It's really a crying shame, there are precious few beautiful things in our plastic society, Guerlain is ( was?) one of them. The house has produced masterpieces which make me think of Malher's symphonies. They never stop unfolding, captivating and enchanting me.

Musc Noble is another I really enjoy. Heritage is one I did not get along with at first but it has really grown on me now. An excellent video on the house of Guerlain. They must be among the most consistent perfumers in the industry. It's really a challenge to find one that is "mah". I have been considering the vintage Shalimar for some time. Several male reviews have expressed the view that this is perfectly wearable for a man, and not too "girlie" in nature, plus I love "orientals" anyway. All the more so since recently taking delivery of Cartier's L'Envol EDP this week. It is wonderful! I wish I had discovered it sooner as I suspect it is not a fragrance for high summer, although good for the shoulder seasons like Spring and Autumn.

Ze bee, iss ze official symbol of ze Cleopatra, and in fact ANY and ALL ancient kings in Egypt who we call nowadays, erroneously - 'pharaohs.' It's actually a very complicated symbol and means a lot of things to do with one of the early ancient goddesses. (Another great video, Clemence, about such a truly great House).

I just love these ones 🤓 learnt so much, the story behind shalimar is so beautiful ❤️ I am not sure if I learnt this from you, but I just learnt that perfume basically means smoke to god, which is beautiful 🙂 and haha that other Clémence is very scarey 😜 reminds me of my French ex, except wasn't just that look, she pouted more and threw heavy objects 😂. It's good that the only one I've tried Vetiver is one of your favourites 😁
