Hello from Ontario Canada! Thanks for all your videos! Sometimes I initially think the video lengths are a bit long, however the time always flies by so fast! It's because every word you say has value and meaning. You're so smart how you are able to narrate a long comprehensive lesson. I don't usually feel the need to continue searching for info after watching your content. Thank you so much!!

I also wanted to share my story in case it can help anyone. After Christmas a year ago, I decided to try to keep my poinsettia and get it to live. I knew then that standing in water was a death sentence and I also knew that they were widely known to be hard to keep alive. I didn't know they didn't like a south facing window though... So I stuck it in the sunniest window I have (because it was too sunny for any other plants) and it, of course, decided to hate me and come within inches of its life for the next couple months. I almost gave up caring for it as it just had 10 of so green(ish) leaves when all of a sudden it started sprouting and growing like crazy. It was so happy that I left it there (thank god something likes that spot!) It continued growing all summer and fall, all the way up to Christmas it was still pushing out new little green leaves. It just never stopped! It was green for Christmas... I didn't force it to go red or anything only because it was so happy I didn't want to jinx it. Then after Christmas, the leaves started to slowly turn red, one by one it seemed. So beautiful to see the new lime green leaves change into red because all the colors in between were just so so sweet. Now it has this most beautiful, rich and full bright red color like nothing I've seen before or could ever buy. The tiny flower buds are formed but haven't opened just yet. It seems like at this stage the top is so healthy, happy and ready... but the row of old bottom leaves are yellowing and dying off... I don't know, but it seems natural only because it seems so happy. I look forward to another year of holding my breath and trying to keep it alive if it does this again next year. It is just amazing to look at. Sidenote, we burn fireplace all winter so we have drier air and I think this was just a walmart poinsettia, nothing special

It might also be helpful to know that here in Ontario, our sunlight by Christmas is usually from 7am - 4pm. Where it's located, lights are on until 9pm. I've watched some video on how to force your poinsettia red and they seem insistent on the fact that not even a sliver of light from under the door is allowed during it's "dark closet" time. But mine, for whatever reason decided to bloom full on. not even some lame blooming attempt. It's in full glory!

Hello, from Colorado! I have this plant for 2 years now, paid $5 for it :) I didn't want to throw it after all, becouse i like saving plants and give them chance to be and it's give me joy. It's very healthy and looks like a mini tree now. Still beutiful becouse the leaves are big and gorgeous even they are green. Thank you so much, for the tip how to make them red. Will try to experiment by keeping the plant in my dark bedroom. Your videos are wonderful! Best wishes

0°C means water is freezing, 100°C water starts to boil. Between 20 and 30°C get your speedos out.

Hello from Athens! Lovely video! Last year during christmas time I was given a poinsetia plant (in greece we call it Alexandrino). It was my first poinsetia, so I didn't really knew what to specifically do with it, I just watered it. I was told that it would die in January but it actually lived indoors until june (just water and occasional biological fertiliser once in a blue moon), when I decided to to repot it and then it died in a couple of weeks. I live in Athens, Greece, where the temparature almost never goes below 14C, is sunny most of the days even during wintertime, and it rarely rains but when it does is pouring rain. You can even see tree poincetias growing outdoors, in pots or in soil. The outdoor poincetias, though, here don't go red in christmas time, they get red in March. This year I bought one for christmas, a big one, 50cm high. This time I did everything as instructed: plenty of indirect sunlight, no streams, frequent watering, and good drainage), but some of the leaves are starting to get yellowish on the edges, and the red ones are getting dark red or green-ish. Some of the lower ones shrank and died the first week (some of them were killed by my cat but not all). It's the third week I have it in my home. So I have a couple of questions: Why did it die the first time when I reppoted it? Why are the leaves in my current plant changing colour? Does this have to do with the athenian climate? What do I have to do, or on what do I have to pay attention to? Thank you very much!

I'm glad to see experienced growers also struggling. I bought a beautiful varigated one now that I have a lot of plants and unexpectedly it's lost all the green leaves while sitting next to a tropical plant, under a grow bulb. This plant is very challenging

I put plastic bottlecaps, 3 or 4 (laying flat ) in the outer pot or the saucer to lift the pot up. This is easy to clean.

I had a large poinsettia. By spring it wasn't looking too good so I planted it outside. Ohio USA. It did great !!! It even bloomed. It had 11 red flowers on it. Then came autumn. It frosted and that poor plant looked like a blow torch hit it. -I had another poinsettia. I left the window open while I was at work. It was 50 degrees F and it died. You are correct. They are very fussy. Thanks.

I have kept a poinsettia alive for 2 years now. I still haven't been able to get the thing to just be a happy, healthy plant. However, it refuses to die: instead, it just stares at me, baiting me, dropping all its leaves randomly every few months, daring me to figure out what will actually make it happy. You have no idea how vindicated I feel right now, after having found this video.

I love how you said they have to be sold with the plastic covering otherwise they get damaged. In Australia they’re sold in supermarkets and hardware stores by the thousands in December and not a cover in sight 🤦‍♀️

In many cases decorative pots are the death penalty for poinsettias. In my experience it is better to buy handsome pots that can go without decorative pots and then you can check whether there is excess water. And if you want to keep this perennial, repot it in a cactus and succulent mix for better drainage. Thus you can prevent root damage from overwatering.

Marc Mattulat Thanks for your input! It’s very positive to be able to quickly check so that the Poinsettia isn’t standing in water. Planting it in a self watering pot makes it even easier and solves this problem for you. Ad a water meter and you’re set. Our experience is that planting it in pumice (volcanic rock) not only helps it from being to wet but also helps the roots to start growing and will make the plant stronger if you want to qeep it after the Christmas weekends. Thanks for watching!

My poinsettias came in lush as a Christmas gift from my husband. Now it breaks my heart to see fallen leaves everyday. They're not overwatered, I saw to it that they're not. What could have caused the falling leaves and what can I do to save it from getting balder and save it from dying? I love your channel by the way, each video is informative and easy to understand. Keep up the good job! God bless!

I hate this plant with a passion. It dies everytime. And the growers don't grow it properly either. Everytime I find mold growing on the roots and stems that kills it. I don't buy it but well meaning people gift it to me every Christmas. And it dies every single time. Too little light, too much light, too little water, too much water, I looked at it a bit wrong, idk it's fussy AF
