To use the features shown in this video you will need to use EverWeb 4.3 or higher, for macOS or Microsoft Windows.
When you create a new website, first set up your site’s default text font, size and color before adding text to your pages. To do this, go to the Format, Default Styles… menu option. Click on the Body Paragraph Style. Set the body text font, font size and Text color e.g.set the default text size to 16 point. Click Save when done.
When you add any new text, it will use the new settings.
To add text to your page, click on the TextBox button or use the Insert, TextBox menu option.
A TextBox will appear with default text “Enter Text” highlighted. You can start typing immediately. The default text will be overwritten.
TextBoxes can be resized using the grab handles.
When adding Textboxes, we recommend always attaching a paragraph style e.g. when pasting text in from the clipboard.
Text within a TextBox can be selected and edited in a variety of ways:
If the TextBox is not already selected, click once inside it to select it.
To put the cursor where you want to edit, click three times quickly in the TextBox where you want to edit the text. You can now add or delete text from the cursor.
Move the cursor by clicking your mouse where you want to place it, or by using the keyboard's arrow keys.
Select text from the cursor position by holding down the shift key then use the keyboard's arrow keys to highlight text.
Alternatively, use the mouse to highlight the text.
To select a single word, double click on it.
To select a whole paragraph, triple click on it.
To highlight all text whilst the mouse cursor is in the TextBox, use Cmd+A on a Mac, or Ctrl+A in Windows.
If the mouse cursor is not in the TextBox, double click in the TextBox to select all text.
If you double click inside a TextBox when it is not currently selected, all text will be highlighted. If you start typing, any highlighted text will be overwritten.
To undo this use Cmd+Z on a Mac, or Ctrl+Z in Windows.
Text can be styled using the Text Inspector or the Fonts and Colors buttons.
Next, go to the Text Inspector, and choose a Paragraph Style from the list. If you change the paragraph style later, the changes will be applied to any text using that Paragraph Style.
For more information please check out our ‘Global Style for Text and Colors’ video.
You can manually change text attributes e.g. font family, font style and color, in the Fonts section. You can also scale the font using the Minimum Font Size field.
First set the maximum font size, using the field to the right of the Font Style dropdown menu e.g. 36 point. Next set the minimum font size to scale down to in the Minimum Font Size field e.g. 18 point.
Preview, or publish your site, to see the text scale automatically.
If you use a version of EverWeb prior to 4.0, change text attributes via the Fonts and Colors buttons.
To change the TextBox's background color, go to the Shape Options tab. In the Fill section, choose the Color Fill option.
Use the Text Inspector to align text in a TextBox to the left, center, right or justified. Text can be aligned to the top, middle or bottom .
Change the spacing between text characters using the Character Spacing option and the height of each line with the Line Height option.
To change the gap between two paragraphs, select a paragraph then use either After Paragraph, or Before Paragraph.
The Insert Margin option adds both vertical and horizontal padding to your text.
You can make a scrollable TextBox by first add text to the Textbox. Next check the Scrollable Text checkbox. Size the TextBox so that some text inside it is not visible. When you preview or publish, scroll the text in the TextBox.
