One aspect of the game that I loved is the fact that the different zombies have resistances and weaknesses to different types of damage. It gives you a reason to keep and use a varied arsenal of weapons throughout the game rather than just going for weapons with the best damage.

Ok, so I'll add up some information: - Shamblers/Walkers is pretty sumed up in the video. Don't let them gang up on you (the ground pound ability is useful in those scenarios) - Runners best turn them into crawlers. If you like melee, dodge/block before going for the limbs. Firearms are good ranged options to dismember too (good aim required) - Swarm walkers can get "angrier" if you smash the hive with melee/firearms (this way you can obtain a certain component from them. Just dont burn, shock or melt them). Also, it seems the insect swarm is capable of shielding (unintentionally) the zombies if said swarm is in front of the zombie, but only from projectiles. These zombies can send, at least, two/three swarms in a slow succession unless killed. - Crushers are nothing without their arms (well, they'll still kick), remove them. Removing their arms yield a bone component or flammable fluid (in the case if burning ones) component. - Incendiary/hydration/caustic x zombies can be turned into strategic bombs if you kill them without damaging the backpack... or they can spray their element then explode if you attack the back (explosion might not kill them though) - Riot gear zombies can be hurt with elemental attack IF you remove any piece if their armor. The ones wearing a helmet won't be able to grab you as long as the helmet is on. - Grenade carrying zombies are actually pretty useful early in the game. Don't let them grab you when they are about to go BOOM. Aim for the legs or head if you wish to use them later on as "red barrels": just remember, they take time to explode. - Fire/spiky runners/walkers deal their respective elemental damage if you let them get close. I prefer turning them into crawlers. Also, it seems attacks with weapons designed to cause bleeding of spiky walkers/runners are useless. - Firefighters are totally inmune to any type of elemental damage, even when dismembered. Go for the classics: blunt or blade... or regular guns. - Food delivery runners carry energy bars/drinks as well as some components as long as you don't damage too much that backpack of theirs. - Electric type zombies are open for attack after a chemical bomb/water. Be careful, they might generare a post-mortem shock attack. - Screamers can be shut up with any throwable that damages on impact. Get close and unleash the pain (careful, those long claws aren't for show) They can be turned into crawlers but still scream. Avoid damage to the chest if you want their lungs (sometimes the spine too) or their heads (for the electric ones) if you want the brain. - The exploder-type zombie (forgot the name, not the grenade carrying one) is pretty basic. They get close, shake a bit then BOOM; it damages/kills everything within their AOE (which is somewhat long). I usually let them get close and do a couple of dodges (evade) away from them to avoid using my weapons. They are only a threat if several are present AND in closed spaces (and you let yourself get surrounded) - Fat, puking regular/fire ones can be a nuisance from afar. Get close, go in circles delivering damage, avoid their puke when they do and you'll be good. These zombies can hurt their bretheren, unknowingly, with both puke and ranged attacks. - Butchers can dodge and parry and can become a real pain if there are other zombies nearby. I used acid/fire against them to eat their health away. Guns work once in a while, because the bastards will use their sharped arms to protect themselves. They are resistant to explosives Oh, and chase them down when they run to feed. - The other type of butcher is far more aggresive, can get angry (they attack faster) and feeds on himself to heal... infinite times. Oh, and it is covered in spikes/barbed wire so, you know, bleeding damage. Both variants of butchers can have their heads stomped but you gotta be quick about it: they recover from being knocked down rather quickly. Well timed dodges/blocks can be really helpful. - Mutators can be identified if you remember the looks of the first mutator you found before it turned. They can be killed before turning but gotta be quick about it or they'll turn, recover health and go serious (they are always enraged when mutated). Special attacks include shooting sharped bones as ranged attack (which cause bleeding and can damage other zombies), ground pound and, aparently, an insta death grab attack (this last one dunno, I had an ability card that freed me from grapples automatically). Loud noises (explosions, gunshots) will make them mutate. Elemental damage will reduce the chance of special zombie parts to use in crafting.

I killed enough vicious butchers to unlock some zompedia entries. It isn't eating itself, it's eating the chunks of flesh it tore out of you with its spiky body.

Another thing to mention. You can block explosions and the burster zombies with a timed block and completely negate their damage. This only works if there is one, however. If there are 2 bursters in front of you and you block the first when it explodes, you'll be caught by the second one's explosion. If you're cornered though, this doesn't mean death, since you can completely negate the damage of at least one of them with a timed block before they all explode. Also you don't need to jump over the crusher's shockwave, you can block that too, or timed block his slam attack if you're block enough. Butchers are resistant but not immune to fire, but are weak to cutting weapons and poison, so have one handy for both variants of the butcher. I like to save my fury mode for stronger variants of butchers (bleed as well as the ones with a star around their level number) as well at mutators. For screamers, if you're close to one and it's about to scream, you can block it's scream so you don't get knocked backwards as far, allowing you to shut it up faster if your curveballs are recharging, or you don't want to waste ammo. Throwing a weapon works too. For groups of zombies I like my curveballs, particularly the electric bomb and the military grenade. Both explode on contact, and the military grenade is as strong as the pipe bomb, except it explodes immediately and doesn't harm you when you throw it at your feet, so it's much better to use. I use the skill cards that reduce the cooldown when I damage zombies with curveballs, and when I use a timed block. It's so effective that I've been able to use my grenade on one group after another. If I hit enough zombies and get a timed block, my grenade or electric bomb will be recharged by 90% already, so the skill cards are very good to use.

What I find interesting is that whichever survivor you pick at the beginning, all the others seemingly perish, since you never see any of them and there's never any report of other immune survivors in the city.

I would say all the zombies are scary for me. I watch KZbinrs play this game and got super interest and wasn’t scary for me. When I got the game, I was wrong the game was super scary for me. Idk why probably it the animation and how scary the zombies looked like. The game is extremely hard. Too me the two hardest of the game was the train and Reuben boss fight.

i have never played this game and I have just hear of it but this makes me think more on how zombie varients came to be, for example spikey and runners. My most effective way to deal with butchers is a well timed block and once they are stunned a heavy round to their head. Going crazy on their legs with a claymore seems to work too or just go full out autophage and ragemode

One small tip you did miss. When killing the Bursters whatever element you killed them with their explosion will take on. So if you kill them with a shock shuriken the blast will be electric. Flaming drop kick? Fire. Good thing to keep in mind when dispatching them considering the environment.

A suggestion Instead of cutting off the Crushers arms, go for the legs, we discovered that their legs are more important than their strong arms, plus they don't turn in crawlers, they just die instantly (if you have Peggy)

I think I would say you have around a 30-40% chance of getting hit with a burster's explosion if you drop-kick them, it's one of my favorite things to do, drop kick them and send them flying back into a group of zombies. The issue comes from if they hit the ground before flying out of range, if they fly out of range they'll explode and you'll take no damage, but if they hit the ground before that you'll be caught in the explosion.

With the butcher you can tell they're about to attack when they lyrics back a little if you time it right you can block him stunning him I found the shotgun is most effective just stunner him and then unload into his face easiest way this obviously doesn't count for the first one you come across so basically kind like Left 4 Dead crowning the witch just block and blast

If anyone is having trouble with any of the apex variants, i never had a problem bringing out peggy and shooting off their legs, crushers, slobbers and their variants are one shot if you aim at their shins, sometimes the mutators 💀💀

So funny thing about the mutater is they go down pretty easily to shock damage Most i encounter i just spray with my electrocuter machine pistol that also causes a huge electrical explosion if you damage them further after they are already suffering from the effects Get them into a pool and basically just stun lock them for a bit But electrocution is the best way to take them down

Even with all the issues Dead Island has, I can never hate these games Between the zombies themselves and survivor characters (and yeah some of the glitches) its still fun and theres some pretty good moments of tension The inclusion of various weaknesses and resistances and elements on zombies is also pretty neat since it forces you to get more flexible with your weapons and strategies Really nudges you to get creative with your environment

The weaknesses for the putrid and firestorm slobbers weren't covered. I know chem-bombs can extinguish the flames of the firestorm variant, but I'd like some info on the best way to deal him some damage as well. Anyone know which weapons and attacks are optimal for fighting these two variants? It would be nice to know what their weaknesses are specifically. It's not that I'm expecting them to be some huge issue, but knowing what works best and what they're immune to tends to make things go a lot smoother.

Slobbers are weak to sharp and shock weapons. An electric sword will do great against them.

He did mention that the regular slobbers were weak to shock dmg, but I misunderstood his accent the 1st time I watched the video.😅 He also mentions that putrified slobbers are immune to bleed dmg specifically, but are otherwise similar to the regular variant so it makes sense that they'd still be susceptible to shock dmg. I'm guessing the fire variant will be the same as the regular slobber with the exception of weaponized fire. This game is kinda weird with how you can or cannot deal dmg sometimes. Some other zombie types will simply ignore the fact that they're being hit with a weapon at all if that weapon happens to be modded with an elemental effect that they're immune to because the game "converts" all dmg to that elemental effect type. I guess an electrified blade works against the putrified slobber because the dmg has been "converted" to electric dmg at that point, if he's immune to blunt, caustic and projectile dmg nothing else could really work.

It bugs me that zombies can be totally immune to weapons. Like yes, I know that burning zombie won’t be affected by the fire on my sword. But it’s A FUCKING SWORD… it will still kill it. @@NukeisAfriKaner yeah. I mean I get what they’re going for with that, but it really just restricts us even more. There’s a lot about the game I dislike. It’s a fun game, but they restricted it so much, making us basically go through the game EXACTLY how they intended. Like our gameplay itself is scripted. All the items and weapons we find are predetermined even. Like our experience will be exactly the same as someone else’s experience if they chose the same character. Because characters are the only real difference between playthroughs. And I don’t like that. Perks aren’t random, which I expected with the card system. Get a random perk card, so each playthrough would be unique depending on what you pull. But nope. Not even weapons… some container have very slight randomness but not much. Most are scripted to give you a specific weapon.

I just want to say a quick FUCK THE VISCIOUS BUTCHER! I don't know about anyone else but i went through the story with only three guns and everything else being modified melee weapons. I could only craft pistol rounds until i went to Carlos to buy a rifle ammo blueprint which barely mattered later on. Also almost all of my weapons were full but because the Viscious Butcher and it's fucking self eating heal i pretty much had to run at this fucker with half durability. I eventually just ran past it bevause i knew i'd be stuck on it forever. But yeah fuck that fucking Butcher Variant.
