Rudolph's Pedigree: Mason was the 2017 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner. Jayden Daniel won it this past season (2023) Why go out and waste all that money on a Jayden Daniel-esque college QB when you already have one on the roster. Mason also won the Sammy Baugh Trophy in 2017 which Patrick Mahomes won in 2016. There is a reason the Steelers bragged that they got a "first round talent" in the third round. Don't be hardheaded . . . just go with Mason and spend your draft capital surrounding him with talent, both offensive and defensive.

Put it like this if Mason was coming out in the 2021 draft he would have been the selection over Pickett simple as that. Pickett was horrible throughout 4 season of college didn’t improve one bit and finally in his 5th season he exploded in the putrid acc. That counts for nothing to me. Mason over his 4 seasons improved every single season. We can win with Mason I agree bring in another solid QB in free agency and legitimately let the best man win the job

Kenny doesnt make that throw against the ravens in the rain. Or the throw to pickens with the pocket collapsing. Rudolph also has the longest throw through the air for the steelers this year 55.7 yards.

I like the throw to Calvin at the goal line. Mason quickly found the open guy instead of being locked in on a particular receiver.

The fact that Mason Rudolph had one less touchdowns in less games speaks volumes. It wouldnt be bad to give him the starting job. He is humbled now and at 6'5" we have a Big Ben clone

Mason Rudolph is not even close to as good as Ben Roethlisberger and never will be. He may be better than Kenny Pickett but that goes for literally every quarterback starter backup third string whatever. Kenny Pickett has no significant NFL career remaining and best case scenario for him is that if Will Levis struggles or gets injured maybe Mason Rudolph can come in and help Tennessee get a few wins like he did with Pittsburgh his final year with them.

Not true, look up his 2019 stats they are bad to mediocre and that would have been a losing season I’m sure had Pittsburgh not have traded for Minkah Fitzpatrick who led them to several wins that year. But no even in his first appearance he was throwing interceptions and his first start despite a lot of takeaways by Pittsburgh defense Mason couldn’t score a TD and we lost. Yeah the “winning records” that Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph have are misleading because they deserve little to no credit at all for those wins.

That TD throw Mason had in the down pour against the Ravens is so beyond what Kenny had to do. In the one you compared it to. Pickens was WIDE ASS OPEN in broad daylight. Mason snuck the ball in between two defenders, hitting DJ in stride, with terrible weather on top. “One of” your favorite Kenny TD passes lol he only had 6. Not a lot to choose from

Great breakdown. Mason's talent really shows through on these TD's. Kenny needs a boost/way to get a great angle to even get most of these throws home, i.e., waggling to the right on the TD to Pickens vs Balt, the roll-out on the TD to Muth vs Raiders. Mason is so much more decisive, especially on the first TD to GP on the slant and the Austin TD vs Bills. Hope Mason is back because you needed more than double the number of games to come up with as many KP TD throws as Mason's. Give Mason a prove it deal, get a C, RT and a better slot receiver and we average 25 ppg next year. Another year of Kenny? More 16 ppg, with an offense more painful to watch than a dental appointment, hoping for a turnover deep in opponent's territory to steal wins.

Mason should be the starter barring them making a trade that significantly upgrades the qb position. That said idk how mason is ok coming back to "compete" for the starter job after the sham of a competition they hosted the last couple years

I mean if calling good qb play and comparing it to bad means you have chubby. When it comes to Rudolph's play vs kenny I have a full on veiny mother f'er cause that's the difference in play. Lol but seriously if I were breaking down the wrs would you say I have a chub for pickens too. Or for the rb's. I like the team. I'm a fan. So it takes alot for me not to like a player for the team or to want the back up, or fields , or anyone not named Russell Wilson to come start over kenny. From what I hear, to the dismay of all the kenny apologist is that rudy is coming back. Coach wants him back, rbs, wrs do too, and he even put out a tweet. Thats how all the kids talk now adays. If we jump down pickens for his negativity on social media we should be able to acknowledge mason looking like he wants to come back. Oh and if you didn't know at 230pm today he will be interviewed by a steelers centric podcast so talking to the steelers fans today. But I also gave kenny his props. That throw against the browns was nice. He just don't do it enough or consistently. It's more consistently bad play.

@StateoftheSteelers I think you sit pickett for a season or two behind Mason and coach him up. The intangibles are there, he just needs to do what Mason did and grind out those weak spots. I still don't think he will be as good as Mason because not many qbs have Mason's God-given arm talent, but I think he could be pretty good.

Picketts last 8 games were won by the defense. In that time he threw 2 touchdowns and statistically the worst qb in history throughout that time frame. The last 8 games of last year were better but the film caught up to him. Maybe the game will slow down for him and he can be serviceable. If we look at masons 1st starts in the nfl he trumps pickett by a bit with a less talented team and randy fictner as oc. To me rudolph has a higher floor... then we look at the last 4 games it appears his ceiling his higher as well. Some of those throws I the elements against Baltimore and bills I'm not sure pickett can make. Idk who's coming in as competition for pickett, but I think who ever it us outside Russell Wilson or mitch trubisky I think will beat out pickett easily in a fair competition

Well, first of all Ben knows Kenny sucks so of course he endorses him 😂 because that makes Steelers fan remember him & miss him. He loves the horrible QB play we were experiencing until Mason took over. Even in retirement he wants to be the center of attention. Remember the dumb comments asking him to come back like people forgot how horrible he was in his last year. 😂 Ben knows & has always known that Mason can be a better QB than him. That’s why he was threatened by him from day 1 and they never established a working relationship let alone became friends. Its funny he did not have that problem with Dodds & Duck or any of the other backups I for one was never that high on Ben’s QB abilities. He lost us just as many games as he won us even in the 2 Super Bowls victories he was avg. He was surrounded by elite talent most of his career. Can imagine how many more Super Bowls Tom Brady would have won with the WR’s we had and LB in his prime. He couldn’t even led us to a Super Bowl with all of that talent. SMH It’s no coincidences we haven’t won a playoff game since LB led us to those wins. Ben was as good but he is severely overrated in my eyes. For all the good he did he caused just as much damage. So, I don’t think I will be listening to Ben’s opinions on anything especially about Mason and his abilities as a QB.

Kenny will be QB1 to start the season but hopefully we keep Mason cause it won't take long for Kenny to get injured and be out. Seems like he gets injured every time he gets sacked. Once Mason takes over I expect him to keep the starting role as he will stack wins and play well. Mason is bigger, stronger, tougher, better arm, better accuracy, reads defenses better and can scramble well enough to get some free yards when needed. Just a better overall player.
