I played percussion in band in high school. We played this in concert and marching band. I played the bass drum on this piece for both. I played my freshman and sophomore years, which would have been 1977 - 1979. I have never forgotten this song but couldn't ever find a place to listen to it until yesterday when I decided to search on youtube! Thank you so much for this post! Please don't ever delete it!!! Brings back so many fun memories of high school years gone by nearly 40 years ago!

Played this as 1st clarinet 2nd chair in high school my senior year - 1970/1971. It always generated so much energy when we played it. I've been searching for years to find a recording. It means a lot to hear it again. One of my best memories!

The late Gene Thrailkill, director emeritus of the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band, retired in 2001. In March, 1970, while Director of Bands at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, he directed the Fairfield County (OH) All-County Band. The program included this work and others, including Macbeth's Chant & Jubilo. I was lucky enough to sit 2nd chair clarinet, and playing under Gene convinced me to attend Ohio U, where I met my wife of 46 years, Cathy Phillips. RIP Coach.

this has to be the demo version, isn't it? I played this in more than one band (I've conducted it, too; it's tricky), but I've never heard it played in tune like this. and it WAS a band favourite, we were always begging to play it.

We played this in 10th Grade Band. The director thought it would be cool to add a strobe light, but we never rehearsed with it. Of course, at the concert no one could see their music and the piece fell apart. Lesson learned. ALWAYS rehearse as you wish to perform a piece.

That's definitely a High School Band playing this marvelous piece. There are couple of strains between passages, and the bridge is a little pushed at one point. However, this performance is absolutely OUTSTANDING! I remember, with great nostalgia and fondness, playing this piece in High School in 1973, but it NEVER sounded this clear, crisp, or clean. Thank you so much for posting this. I've been searching for it on youtube for years...

My junior high band (1971-2) played this and it was our favorite, too. I have a recoding on an old LP our director had made that year, but no phonograph on which to play it. This is a great performance.

This is the same piece I used to practice working with some MIDI software around 2000, entering it over a couple of weeks from the condensed score I had copied from my junior high band teacher back in '72. As of the turn of the century, I heard that Giovannini was still living somewhere in the Phoenix area.
@vincelamb40636 жыл бұрын
I played this in junior high school and the arch rival high school played this for their field show when I was in high school. As for the photo, I'm pretty sure that's the Cavaliers drum and bugle corps playing on two-piston G bugles.

Great work, so "sixties." Fun memories of it Does anyone have or know of a recording of his "Rondo Rococo?" I need it, bad. Been looking for one 20 years.

Some posters have mentioned that Mr. Giovannini also composed several other works, that people remember fondly. If anyone out there has recordings of some other compostions of Mr. Giovannini, please post them on youtube! Feel free to link to my video! Also--if anyone would be willing to post a small bio of Caesar Giovannini, it would be much appreciated. I can't seem to find much about him on the internet.

Does anyone have a recording of Giovannini's "Nordic Trilogy" to post? Another very nice piece.
@zooeyhall15 жыл бұрын
No it's not a demo, but an actual band of High School kids. My memory is a little fuzzy on the specifics but it was in the late '70's when we had what was called a "state" high school band, I believe it was called. If you listen there are some shaky spots between themes but overall it is done very good.

No, but we used to play the tuba, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trumpet parts and the the woodwind part with 3 people on the piano. Sounds kick a** that way! We just kind of adapted it and went for it.

If I'm not mistaken, this piece is in Bb Dorian mode. The mallet percussion parts have a four-flat key signature, but it's definitely not Ab Major nor F minor.
@douglaslucas21555 жыл бұрын
Hi. I'm looking at the score. Four flats, makes it A flat major, right?
