@@AllAboutRVs When you sprayed Simple Green on roof, was it full strength or diluted?
@ceimo856Ай бұрын
Word of caution. I was told by several RV techs and the manufacture to NOT use Dawn on the roof. It’s too aggressive. It breaks down the self leveling caulk (sealant). 😉

In the Air Force we switched from regular Simple Green to Aircraft grade. We found that regular simple green is caustic and will make rubber, silicone, and plastics brittle over time. Try out the Aircraft grade next time and see what you think.

In 3 used RV that have pass my hands I always immediately after buying, clean the roof, then apply Henry Tropi-cool 887 silicone and after they the roof is secured for “life” and to cleaning a simple broom with dish soap. That silicone coat make the roof eternal, and dirt, dust and other debris never stick to it is like magic.

Foaming Simple Green is my go to. Wet the roof, spray a section down with the foam, soft brush, rinse, done. 2 cans did my 35' with 3 slide. A/C cover, fan covers, and vent covers came out looking great as well. And I ditch the shoes and do the job in socks; they seem to grip better than my shoes lol.

The day after 8 cleaned my roof I see this video. The next time I will do it your way. Speaking of the Turtle Wax, last year I applied Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic and when I washed the rig yesterday, black streaked came right off and water beaded like it had just been applied. Good stuff!

Great stuff on all your videos. Came back to watch this again just to see if I could find any of what I found on my Grand Design Imagine roof. After cleaning this fall, I noticed several places that looked like a nail head pushing up from under the roof liner. Have you seen this? Just had a new roof put on last fall and I'm somewhat concerned that this could push through and open up a hole and cause another mess like I had last year that made me replace the roof.
@humblerojo6300Ай бұрын
Dirt, dust and debris fines actually are a beneficial way of sealing fine holes and cracks in seams and caulk. All I care about is keeping gutters clean and removing large debris. Now, if you care about resale value then I get all the cleaning. I dare say that cleaning seams is what likely starts more leaks than just having a somewhat dirty roof.

I just did my roof last weekend. I used a low pressure electric pressure washer with one of those spiral "turbo" nozzles. I kept away from the sealants but it removed all the dirt quickly and without any chemicals. I'll have to get up there sometime with some Simple Green or something and clean the areas with sealant on them, but for getting the bulk of it in a hurry, it worked well. I also haven't spent much time under trees so the roof wasn't all that dirty to begin with. (Unlike my AC condenser, even though it was cleaned a few months ago. Completely plugged with what looked like cat fur.) Then I washed the sides with Turtle Wax's Hybrid Ceramic since it's well reviewed.

I just did my roof yesterday with a mixture of Purple Power and Dawn and it got 70% of the dirt....of course this is the first time in about 2 years I've cleaned my roof. Thanks for the tips on the cleaners and I love the Turtle Wax Graphine on my truck, so I'll give it a whirl on my camper..

As a boat owner, Dawn is a great soap, but Dawn strips your wax, so you don't use it unless you are going to wax the surface after cleaning with it. I would guess if you have a fiberglass roof cap, you would want it waxed to minimize sun damage and oxidation. (which like a boat that oxidation will run down the sides leaving white streaks. So, I would be looking for products that don't strip wax. 303 makes some great space-age cleaners.

I was looking at it today and yes it is dirty but the membrane looks like orange peel but still in really good shape. I wait for the rains to wash the dirt off but I am afraid to scrub it too hard because of age. I have never had a leak also. I am leaving it alone.

@DR-ro7dw2 ай бұрын
After cleaning your roof, do you apply any type of UV protectant or rubber roof treatment to keep it supple? I find older roof membranes can have a bit of a powdery material which would indicate the rubber roof slowly breaking down due to sun and time. I have a roof that’s 25 years old and after cleaning always apply a I’ve protectant to try and slow that process but wondering if there is something better that you use!

Used your method today and the Simple Green worked great, Jared. Want to buy 2 gallons of Dawn? 😢 .(I gave up worrying about the gray splotches on the TPO material.) Had a question regarding dropping the wintner matt underneath our Grand Design Reflection. I've done it twice, and it's a major headache lying on your back, trying to get all the holes to line-up for reinstallation. I'm going to use some 2 inch. aluminum angle bars to build a hinged access panel underneath the holding tanks, where I can get to sensors and valves. Any suggestions or lessons learned.?

As in Loves Travel plaza's? The ones with the yellow sign with the heart?
@fh9630Ай бұрын
@@jbadger1458 Yes. There are also other brand truck stops that you can lookup on Google maps, like Flying-J. Blue Beacon is a dedicated truck wash service in some locations. It was simple... pulled into the bay, they took my info and quoted me a price/options - they hand washed my pickup, all the wheels, the front and back of the 5th wheel; the automated wash had spinning brushes for the sides and roof of the RV. There were no trucks in line ahead of me, so it took about 15 min. Might be good to call ahead in large metro areas to determine least busy days/times.
@fh9630Ай бұрын
While this is great option for routine washes, you do need a deep clean and roof inspection annually like what Jared shows in this video.

@AllAboutRVs I pretty much have an Associate's Degree from KZbin, thanks to all the videos like you produce Jared. I recently replaced the sensors in my grey holding tank, but realized using an L-shape brush to clean a one inch internal perimeter AROUND the sensor was the key. I've seen a lot of recommendations on how to keep the grease from accumulating in the grey tank and I guess I'll put some hot water and Dawn in the tank each time we head down the road just slush it around, If you have anything better to suggest.. . . This was a major project, pulling the winter blanket off the bottom of my Grand Design Reflection. Which reminds me of another bucket list project.... Create an access panel in that winter blanket, making it much easier to get to sensors and holding tank valves. Thanks
