Harvest Host is fantastic. I bought the membership and my RV was in the shop 4 months and had not got to use it once. So they extended my membership by 4 months so I can get to enjoy the full membership time.

Great suggestions! You mentioned a few that I never heard of and really need to check out. I really enjoy what you're sharing! As far as Thousand Trails goes, I'm just going to share a quick story of caution. We had 5 weeks during the summer that we could leverage with them and when I checked their website, it looked like we were good so I purchased a membership (this was early-Spring). Then life took over and before we knew it, it was mid-Spring. I started trying to reserve sites in our zone, as well as the extended zone that I purchased after the fact, but they had no availability. I checked, checked again and then called. They were willing to give me a site for extra $ but had nothing for their members. When I found a great site in Lake George, NY that wasn't affiliated with them it was much less than the add on cost. The worst part was their cancellation policy. If you don't request a refund within three (I think) months of purchasing your membership, you lose your purchase. I purchased mine well before I planned to travel, so buyer beware for sure. Additionally beware of their recurring membership. You have to cancel via mail using an obtuse form to discontinue your membership.

Yes, that is true about canceling your membership, it does need to be in writing a month prior to your renewal date

We only use our trailer a few times during the summer so we have Good Sam. There is a Pilot near us and all year we fill our vehicles there and use the discount, it adds up! The other thing is that if we need parts on the road there is a member discount at Camping World. They are not my first choice for parts but if they are where we are I would hate to pay the over inflated “regular” price when I need something on the road. And we did get a slight discount at a few parks we have been to. Oh yeah, and it’s cheap.
@Bwanar13 жыл бұрын
With Passport America, I found out the only time you get 50% off is off-season, when I wouldn't want to be staying there anyway. I guess if you do it full time you could be in the wrong places all throughout the year and get your discount. It was not a good fit at all for us. I suggest anyone that wanted to get it, check in to where they would want to stay at those times of the year, and check if a membership would accommodate that timing. You also mentioned Harvest host having no additional costs. Whereas it clearly states they are expecting you to spend at least $20 at the locations. That is for Boonedocking. I stayed at a campground last weekend with full hookups for $15 a day. If you're going to do a tour and tasting, say at a winery, then it's probably a great deal.

Just the tip of the iceberg as far as information goes. If you have perused the Passport America campgrounds, some of them are "dives." For those nicer campground spots, you are limited to 1 - 2 nites. Harvest Hosts is great for an overnight boondocking places (we've done it more than several times.) Thousand Trails -- Expensive because you are limited to 4 nights at each park unless you upgrade, and there are limited choices of parks. Besides, if you decide to book for than 4 nights, you will need to exit the Thousand Trails System for 7 nights, before you can book a stay at another Thousand Trails Campground,. Good Sam - 10% discount on Sam's Club RV Park, but you can also get an RV Plus Card which entitles you to discount of 8 Cents off per gal diesel, half off dump station fee.

@@carjack69 we've been members for 19 years, my parents joined in 1974 so we all grew up in Thousand Trails! The parks are all as similar as they are different. If you could purchase a Thousand Trails membership from someone is it worth it?
@cindyrose54145 жыл бұрын
@@basketcase6884 if you camp a lot. If you just go for a weekend once a month, no. If you're full-time like us, or even every weekend, then it's worth it it. What most people don't realize, if you have a TT campground near you that you want to escape to, you can check with them and see how much to leave your camper there all month. We use to pay $125 a month to leave ours on site, but that was a while ago and they're all different.

In your opinion would it be better to purchase the gold membership or the yearly of Passport America?
@E_House5 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of harvest hosts (beautiful boondocking) but the idea if having to buy $20 worth of product each night is not for us, especially since we don't drink alcohol or eat food made outside our kitchen (severe allergies). Plus so so many of them have cats&dogs in their shops, tasting rooms that we couldn't even go inside. We ended up with a PA bc a county RV park we wanted to stay at on a trip was a member and it ended up cutting $10 off per night (could only use PA 4 nights of our 8 night stay) so even if we never use it again (which I doubt we will), it already paid for itself(that $10/ night savings included the cost of the membership).

My question is some places have great photos and post lots to do, you arrive and find its a dump and not worth staying. I have had that happen on two occasions, one in Central California and one in Southern California. The photos all look good, but once there, pool is GREEN, weeds all over, looks like no one has taken care of it in many months. How do you get around that with a membership???
@AllAboutRVs5 жыл бұрын
There is no full proof way of knowing what it is like there currently but use the Campendium website and app to check a place out before we plan to book a site. With the user pictures and actual reviews we can usually get a really good idea of what it will be like. Campendium is our go to for planning.

I am really upset with Good Sam as I bought the most expensive plan they offer for my RV and car and was just canceled for overuse which is outrageous! I have used it for a flat tire on my tow dolly where they had to come twice as the tire on the trailer was also flat so I had to get a new tire and also two battery jumps on my car. This has been since June 12, 2020. They said it was excessive use and this seems ridiculous. I am a retired single woman traveling full time on my own and need the security of this coverage should I need it. I recently just bought a portable battery jump so I have it as a backup so I don’t have to call just for a jump as we all know battery usage is a issue when traveling in an RV. I have replaced my batteries now as well. I have not used the service since my last battery jump which I don’t recall when that even was. Now I have to write a letter to Good Sam disputing my cancellation . Has anyone found this to be an issue with Good Sam in the past? I am concerned and maybe should go with a new road service company. Thanks
