No batsman in the history of cricket faced more great fast bowlers than Border. All the great West Indian fast bowlers that came off an assembly line at one stage. Bob Willis, Richard Hadlee, Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Allan Donald and at state level he would have to contend with guys like Dennis Lillee. Great batsman.

@@sathvikraomp2006 That's why there is a Border-Gavaskar trophy. They were both great.

I have been watching cricket for 50+ years now. Allan Border is the Aussie batsman I have most admired in that time. A cussed, dogged batsman who parleyed a few shots and a fierce determination into a high achieving and long lasting test match career

He was the instigator of Australia’s Ashes domination from 1989-2005. As an England fan those years were painful. I was lucky enough to watch us win the Ashes in 1985 and 1986/87. I didn’t think I’d have to wait that long to see us win them again!! He was a great player and definitely a cricket legend.

Set the tone on how to Captain an inexperience side by winning the ‘87 World Cup & two years later the ‘89 Ashes in England. Always will be my favourite Australian Captain

A manof action. A man who walked the walk on so many occasions. A man for the time. Cricket is privileged to have had Allan Border.

His batting was not elegant like other left handers but he was constant like miyadad . He always helped like steve Waugh when team was in trouble. He scored ten thousand runs while batting at no. 5 to 6 position. It shows his quality of batting further as per requirement of team he bowled spin bowling with success. Hats of to this great player.

If Donald Bradman is God, Allan Border is his son sent to sacrifice himself as an example of what it means to be an Australian test cricketer.

In terms of inspiration, ab sits atop... in my opinion. I wasn't around before him, but since him, there has been no better captain.

Unfortunately he has been diagnosed with Parkinsons so we may not see much of him on commentary or around the grounds,

Scoring a massive 111,174 runs is no mean feat and was a good part time spinner. And obviously one of the greatest captains.
