To play against those tall and fast bowlers of Aussie and WI with this kind of helmet(without grill) and score more than 10k runs with average of 50+, this is what makes Gavaskar great ❤️ Noone can match that greatness❤️ No disrespect to Sachin or VK, but SRT always had Dravid/Lawman to company, VK has Rohit/Pujara/Pant, but this man, Gavaskar was lone warrior of that batting line up. Yes, few others also played some good innings, but mostly it was Gavaskar in TEST who stood there all the time when team needed. In my opinion, He is THE GREATEST TEST BATSMAN OF INDIA BY SOME DISTANCE. considering the bowlers he faced without helmet. Thank you cricket Australia for this video ❤️😍

The Greatest Batsman of all time!!! An Opening batsman to garner so many runs in a test cricket era where the emphasis was on lasting for days and not slogging every ball, Master of technique (see the way his feet move, always in line of the ball, playing spinning balls on back foot) against the fastest and fiercest bowlers of cricketing history in their opening fresh spells. Against todays bowlers, fast out fields, helmets and powerful bats, Gavaskar would take every bowler to the cleaners and it would be very difficult to get him out. I see how today on turning pitches our best of batsmen cannot last for half a day, I have seen this man bat for days on extremely difficult spinning wickets on which no one lasted, no wonder the opponents loved and respected him hugely. He single handedly laid the foundation on which walked Tendulkar, Virat and Rohit Sharma.
@akchasteify Жыл бұрын
I echo each of your statements apart from the last line perhaps. Not even Tendulkar was anywhere close to him in a testing pitch, leave alone Dravid (stale batting) and Rohit (poor technique against both fast and spin bowling).

As a 12 year old boy, I had the privilege of watching Gavaskar score a hundred at the Eden Garden against the Alvin Kalicharan's West Indies side that featured Malcolm Marshall in December of 1978 in the first innings. Sunny scored another century in the second innings in that test but I didn't get to watch it. The memories of that glorious day is still fresh in my mind to this day! Was also excited to see the new kid on the block - Kapil Dev! Nine years later, got to see Kapil Dev in action again. Watched Kapil Dev-led India go down fighting against Imran Khan's Pakistan in the 6th ODI in March 1987 at Jamshedpur. Miandad hit a half century and remained not out and with Wasim Akram saw Pak over the line. India lost that series 1-5. Vividly recall Ravi Shastri getting booed by a section of the spectators who were yelling and asking Kapil to remove him from the boundary! (Shastri had been getting a lot of attention by the bevy of young women sitting in the pavilion section and was busy signing autographs during over breaks.) Maninder Singh, also fielding at the boundary, was appreciated by the crowd, as I recall. As I sit here on a sunny afternoon in the Silicon Valley, California, glorious memories from these two cricketing days are fresh and vivid as if it was yesterday!

West Indies pace attack of Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Joel Garner and Colin Croft played together in 11 Test matches winning 5, drawing 5 and losing 1. The pace quartet played against Gavaskar in only two series in 1982-83. One home and one away. In the away series for India, the highest scorers are Amarnath with 598 runs in 9 innings! In the home series Gavaskar is the highest scorer with 505 in 11 innings. As per your logic, Don Bradman scored approx 72% of his runs against a single opposition - England, & is still considered greatest of all time, but shouldn't. The FACT is that Gavaskar did score 13 test against a very good West Indies side.
@davifdavid43476 ай бұрын
@nikhilhamand You are giving me information that I am already aware of. Armanath was very special,but none of you ever speak about him. He took an absolute battering from Michael Holding in 1976 and still scored 598 runs without losing his nerve. He was one of the bravest players there has ever been against such life-threatening speed. As for Gavaskar,505 runs at an average of 45,on India's dead pitches is nothing special. On his home pitches,if he was as special as Armanath, he should have at least matched Jimmy's average of 66, which he achieved in the Caribbean. Remember, 2 of those pitches, Jamaica and Barbados, were 2 of the quickest in the world, and yet,he comported himself very well. 7 of Gavaskar's centuries were scored against nobodies because the W I didn't have any kind of bowling attack in 1971.
