Even the polls this time around (despite him dissing them) were more accurate than he was. They showed both the national popular vote and the key swing states being roughly a 50-50 tossup, with T maybe having a slight edge....And those of us who had followed 2016 and 2020 knew that the polls routinely underestimated T's support, such that he was clearly outperforming both the previous cycles, and thus was likely to win. I believe this is the main thing that the betting markets went on.

@@bakizoomer7894 - A couple points: 1) As I noted earlier, the polls did underestimate his support somewhat, albeit less so than in the previous two cycles, but (and perhaps I didn't make this clear enough) *I factored this into my reading of the polls.* I looked at where he was at, both in terms of national polling and swing state polls, compared with where those polling averages had him in 2016 and 2020, and he was clearly overperforming, and thus likely to win. I'm pretty sure this is the same thing that most of the people in the markets did. It's not particularly complicated! 2) In terms of the polls and the national PV, RCP's final "2024 National: T vs. H" polling average had H up by just 0.1%, and T would have been slightly ahead in that average, had it not been for a couple outlier polls. It also looked like last minute deciders broke heavily in T's favor, and factors like improved voter outreach on the R side and Rogan's last minute endorsement brought a lot of low propensity voters to the polls, most of whom wouldn't have shown up in those pollsters' "likely voter" screen (nearly all of the polls in that average were "LV.") And T is currently ahead by about 2% in the national PV, but that lead will probably shrink to closer to 1%, by the time all of the votes in all of the states (a lot still left on the West Coast) have been counted....So it's not like they were really hugely off. And in terms of the overall "swing states" vote, RCP's final "Top Battlegrounds - RCP Average" had T up by 0.8%....This correctly had him winning, albeit by less than his actual margin of victory in those states. They don't give the cumulative results for all those states averaged together, but if you look individually, in most of them, he outperformed the polling average by around 1-2%. In a couple of the states, e.g. Arizona, he outperformed polls by a larger margin....Again, by and large, the polls weren't wildly off, they just underestimated his support a bit, along with the likelihood of some of his supporters to actually vote. And my point is that most of us who were looking at poling numbers objectively, and with awareness of the previous two cycles, correctly predicted his victory based on that.
