@jmmypaddy3 жыл бұрын
His time at Sunderland showed an ability to transform a team with just a couple of signings. At centre back we were floundering with John O'Shea and Wes Brown being older than time and moving just as fast. There was also Younes Kaboul who lacked proper coaching and would make regular mistakes. Lamine Kone was brought in for £5m where he added strength, a fair ability to read the play and most importantly, pace. His pace meant we could have our defence go 5 yards up the pitch without fear of opposition counter attacks. He was paired up with Kaboul who both seeemed to work best together. With a more reliable and fast defensive partnr in Kone, Kaboul's role was more restricted and basic. He could focus on that role and that role alone. Already having Yann V'Villa on loan was great but with the midfield we had he was restricted in his abilities to move around the midfield and press better. Jan Kirchoff was brought in originally as a centre back but wasn't fast enough, Allardyce astutely realised quickly Kirchoff could be used a sitting holding defensive mid, that could free up M'Villa. Whabi Khazri was brought in who added pace to attacks, set piece abilities, crossing and general attacking purpose. He could defend quite well, dribble past plays and provide attacks. Allardyce changed this team from a bunch of no hopers in attack to a real threat to teams, while creating a confident defence. I often wonder what would have happened at Sunderland if England hadn't came calling and Allardyce had stayed.
