Bielsa is one of the best underrated managers of all time... Coming from a United fan. Bielsa changed Chilean football and built the base of of their "golden generation". He takes challenges and that's why he isn't that recognized. Took Bilbao who only uses local players, O. Marseille in one their worst years and promoted leeds after 16 years. Playing attractive and pressing football. Knows how to neutralize teams and apply a winning mentality to his players. A genius.

Great comment. Just wanted to add for whoever didn't know: He actually did win I think 2 leagues with Newell's in Argentina (his home team) and made it to a Libertadores final with them. (Also won one league with Velez). He also won gold in the olympics with Argentina in Athens. And now Championship with Leeds 👏
@AlexxxxxSaysHi4 жыл бұрын
Makes sense, when he came to leeds he said he would improve their current team rather than bringing in a lot of new talent which obviously suited the new owner. But considering leeds form before his arrival to now, you've got to wonder how many potentially legendary football players were lost because the manager wanted to solve problems through the transfer market rather than their implementation of tactics.

You forget, Liverpool play quite compact and exploit open spaces. When teams play 3 back/5 back, they use a more attacking Henderson or Chamberlain to penetrate through the middle , and weaken the oppositions defensive solidity. This happened many times last season.

Great video as always! I think the final point shows the biggest difference between the two: Klopp is flexible, willing to adapt & always eager to learn from his peers; Bielsa is notoriously stubborn & rigid with his tactics, often to the point of alienating his players & staff. Of course, both men have a clear and concrete footballing philosophy, and have spent a long time refining it, but I feel like Bielsa isn't as willing to evolve as Klopp, in recent years at least. I AM a Liverpool supporter, though, so I'm obviously a bit biased ;)
@LeoDragon344 жыл бұрын
Bielsa has never stayed anywhere long enough to create a dynasty, and his methods have always worked, to a certain extent anyway, with the teams he’s coached, so why would he change? For Leeds’ fans he’s our saviour already so if he leaves it‘s very unlikely to be because of the fans. It’ll be interesting to see whether he adapts or leaves if his system doesn’t bring the success he expects. My guess is he’d leave rather than adapt, but who knows? He’s the ultimate enigma.
@md.golammusabbirjoy94694 жыл бұрын
Nah you are absolutely right. It costed him many times tbh. When he was Argentina coach, his side was one of the greatest team in their history, yet they failed miserably because of Bielsa's stubbornness. Almost same thing happened in Bilbao too. He lost two finals with them. The reason he did wonder with Leeds because low tier teams don't need flexibility. If you have a good structure, you can do far better than the others. But in top football, it doesn't apply. Including good structure, you will need a lot more things to compete in the top level. Some of the other prime examples of this are Sarri and Raneiri. They can do wonder with low or mid table clubs, but can't do the same thing with top clubs.
@carlx84094 жыл бұрын
@@md.golammusabbirjoy9469 His Argentina side has still the highest win percentage in the history of the national team, I wouldn't judge his work solely for one or two games, they just lost to England in the world cup and many other teams progressed through the first knockout round with the same amount of points. Same applies to Bilbao: the fact that they reached those cup finals with a pretty average team bossing Manchester United at Old Trafford in the process is quite an achievement - after all, they lost to Pep Guardiola's Barcelona and a strong Atlético Madrid with Falcao on fire. His style of football demands so much from his players that he needs them to firmly believe in his idea, hence why he thinks that a 'plan B' is to get 'plan A' to work. What he believes is that, if he doesn't trust in his idea, he won't be able to transmit his commitment and desire to his players. Call it being stubborn if you like.

@@carlx8409 Win percentage never wins you title, winning important matches does, remember that. This is why flexibility is important. In 2018 qualifier, Brazil team was literally flying. But did the win the World cup? No. Belgium have been on the top of FIFA ranking for several years. Did they win World Cup yet? No.

Just a quick correction; the +1 in defence principle does not include the keeper (1:33). If Leeds meet a team who plays with two up front, he will most likely line up his 3-3-1-3/3-3-3-1. And vs. a 4-3-3, he'd go 4-1-4-1. Great video, as always!

The entire success of liverpool can be credited to 5 players salah,mane,trent,van dijk,robertson these 5 have been outstanding day in day out and as long as they can perform klopp can continue to dominate the league with a backup of decent team supporting these 5. On the other hand other major teams had only 1 or 2 players that play at a similar level as these 5 do and injuries playing a major part in liverpool's success in last 2 seasons. With chelsea looking to increase quality of squad depth and guardiola hunting for centre backs it sure looks like this season will be a tight one, hope man united can join in too by making 2-3 quality signings.

2:45 wow Southampton and Leicester that high surprised me a little. But then again both have got great "new school" technical, progressive managers. Both underrated IMO. Hasenhüttl especially, Brendan does get praised at times. Hasenhüttl did really well to pick Southampton up and get them going again after the 9-0. Which ofc. was against Leicester. Both really modern managers. I really like them both. As a Boro fan I really wish we had a manager like that tbh. Wooders was the first manager of that type we've ever had, but sadly it didn't work out and now we've gone back to the Jurrasic period again with another dinosaur manager in Warnock. We should have got someone of the mold of a Rogers/Hasenhüttl a real forward thinking modern progressive manager. Really disappointed in our recruitment of managers over the years. I REALLY wanted Woodgate to do well. He spoke BRILLIANTLY about how he wanted to play etc. very open and direct in the way he talked. Very clear philosophy. I wished we could have held on better and given him a second season with some of his own signings.

Does a high press / counter pressing system require a higher degree of psychological investment from the players in order to function most effectively? To me that would seem to be the case for Liverpool and Leeds, even if both managers use different approaches to producing and sustaining that. Conversely Pep's approach strikes me as being much more systematic, and thus its success is based more on how effectively that system works more so than the motivation and drive of the players.

I find sides with pressing styles tend to struggle when going to the Prem. Hence why Klopp has adapted his style. As stated, Bielsa might be stubborn. Pressing is a style that most seasoned clubs are used to and only really works when sides have top top talents combined with being very well drilled. However, Leeds are probably better drilled than sides we've seen gain promotion with this style in the past, so could be an interesting comparison to see how well they do
