You know what gets me the most in this scene, it's that Charming is smiling. They're all crying and looking depressed but Charming manages to smile whiles he watches Emma go, with the kind of smile fathers have when they want to console their kids. Is it because he wants to reassure her that everything will be ok? Or because he knows she'll have the life she always wanted with Henry, a life full of good moments, and even if he's miserable to watch her leave them, he's happy for his little girl because *she* will be happy? I don't know the reason behind that smile. But I found it beautiful. And heartbreaking.

@@adventurousfilmmaker2462 given how the final season turned out I wouldn't have minded it ending here either, but then again some people look at has something that only lasted "3 seasons" on a wikipedia page and think cancelled shows like that are a lost cause not investing in. Thankfully this lasted much longer then that. To me personally all depends how well the writers prepared for the finale. "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Defiance" scifi dramas for instance did well enough job with what they had coming up with a proper hopeful conclusions.

Did anyone noticed that the last person we see being engulfed by the curse are Snow, Charming, Regina and Hook? I don't think it's a coincidence; they've all become important people in Emma's life (brb I have to cry a little)

Well of course Snow and Charming are two of the last people to be engulfed. They're Emma's parents and Henry's grandparents so yeah they are very important.

The scene with the smoke rolling through Henry's window, with the book that he'd never come back for right there on his bed, in a now empty house where Regina would never again be his mom...damn. Stupid onions. Thank god they didn't end the series on that note.

It was phenomenal. Now it is like LOST. They do things, you expect, they will do at series end or season finale etc. but they bring it in the middle of the season / series. There are so much parallels to LOST. I love this shows and ONCE is becoming better and better. Best finale by far in this series. :D

Sebastian Müller I really believe that this should be the end of the show. It was so beautiful and magical. The seasons after this were not so good and were filled with ups and downs. I particullary liked frozen dark swan and queens of darkness but still this should be the end

For a moment there I thought that this was the last episode and it would be the end of all of Once upon a time. I was so sad about that. But then they pulled off Hook showing up at Emma's door a year later. Whew glad it wasn't over, false alarm

Same. They still could've wrote it better and then do more episodes but they weren't able to do that. Since Season 3B they just started to concentrate on how to defeat the new villain who appears every 11 episodes. Season 1: Perfect Season 2: Most potential and it was perfect until 2x16 perfect but they shouldn't have killed Cora that fast. This season had the most potential because since 2x13 we had three worlds and it would be nice to explore all the three worlds at the same time (mulan and auroa searching for Phillip in the enchanted forest, Neal emma Henry gold in New York, storybrooke fighting Regina and Cora) instead of traveling to all the other worlds later. Season 3A: Greg and Tamara from season 2 were strangely written and neverland wasn't written well, too. But the last few episodes were good though. Season 3B: Bad writing (except the season Finale). Zelena being Regina's sister is too random. She was never mentioned before, because they just came with the new storyline. Season 4A: Why did they add frozen!? Only for the ratings? Season 4B: it was better than 4A Season 5A: Where are we going now? Season 5B: Why did Cora and Pan just appear in 1-3 episodes out of 10!? They were the ones, we were most hyped of... Season 6: Finally a one season arc again! But why this writing!?

This is just an idea but I am thinking that Hook wasn't affected by the curse when he was sent back, so he might have kept his memories. Season 2 Mulan mentions when the curse was released a certain area of the land wasn't touched, no one could figure out how. We then learn that Cora used a protection spell when the curse was released and she, Hook, Mulan and the others weren't sent to Storybrook. So it's possible he found something in Rumples castle that lead to Emma and Henry. Maybe Neal wasn't affected either since he wasn't their when the curse released who knows. Just an idea.

I remember when this episode first aired. It was so well done and did a great job at playing with my emotions at the time. I didn't want to see our heroes loss so much, but yet I found myself happy that the show was willing to go all the way through with what it was doing, instead of just throwing in a deus ex machina. Rumple is dead, the curse sends everyone back to Enchanted Forest, Emma and Henry have their memories erased. Yes, the villain Peter Pan (aka Rumple's father) has been defeated, but the cost of stopping him was to high. Even when we see Emma and Henry living a happy life together I still feel sad. The people behind this story are freaking geniuses! This is how you do an ending!

I don't know why the writers chose Captainswan instead of Swanfire. I mean in season 2 you basically feel the love between them. In season 3 hook started loving Emma out of nowhere and Neal became less interesting. I hate that fact. For me the show ended at this point (3x11) 'cause this is the last time where the writers had good storytelling. The best villain is for me Cora and not the Black Fairy! Golds sacrifice was so strong and then they brought him back which was very stupid cause he died as a hero. So much has changed...

yes but in the episode Regina explained that people that were not natives from the land without magic would be taken by the new curse. Neal was born and grew up in the enchanted forest, 300 years before the first curse was cast so he was taken. Emma could leave because she was the savior... and the ending was already sad enough without leaving Henry alone while everyone he loves left forever.

Turiet Plouvier yes he did but Regina said that people "not born in this world" was to be taken by the curse. There are loopholes such as Cinderella's daughter, who was also taken by the curse.

@Sullivan I totally agree with you!! This would be the perfect series finale. I mean after that the show went completely upside down. They should have came up with this episode in 3x22 and between 3x11 and 3x22 they should have given us the last answers: what happened to mulan and aurora?, will Robin find his way to Regina?, can Emma finally forgive Neal?, Will ruby finally end up with Whale?, etc. I know all these questions have been answered (except mulan and aurora) but they solved it were bad. Ruby and Dorothy is bullshit. Mulan and Aurora is the ship we were waiting for!! Ruby and Whale had potential. Season 1 to 2x16 was 100% perfect!! But after Cora died it went upside down and after 3x11 the show went totally wrong.
