One more thing I forgot to mention: this is a somewhat temporary fix. Every couple months the foil gets moved around or dislodged, and the key either a) stops working again or b) the buttons will be pressed without you actually touching them. This is solved by repeating the process, which is kind of annoying--but it's up to you to determine whether or not that's worth a new fob.

Thank you so much! This worked like a charm for my 16 year old sons key fob that wouldn’t unlock. It was so embarrassing for him to have to use the key itself to unlock his door, which would make the car’s alarm go off until he put the key in the ignition. (Not sure why this was happening?) Anyway, to spare his teenage embarrassment I was going to shell out the cash to get him a new key fob but then came across this video. Now I save money and he saves embarrassment! He and I are both super grateful. Thank you again!

You are amazing! My son has a 2005 Chevy Cobalt and the remotes stopped working. I replaced batteries and it would only work a few times then quit working. I ordered a programmer and new fobs from Amazon only to them it fail. I finally broke down and had a professional try to program it and they were unable, saying that the system wasn't recognizing the car and that it might have been too old. Nothing was working right and I left with 2 worthless fobs. I wanted to try again so I ordered 2 more fobs off Amazon and looked up a few videos. I watched about 4 and started to give up. I said one more and it was your video. Both remotes work great!! The only thing I can say is that if the foil is a little too big, when you go to lock the car, it may continue to beep a few more times. I cut the foil down to make sure it was only touching its connector.

If you have some 91% isopropyl alcohol and a q tip you should try and clean the contact tips. Ive cleaned mine and it works brand new and its quite common. Ive also had to do this on our window switches as they built up some corrosion, don't use anything abrasive as you will scrape off the zinc coating.

same thing happened to both my fobs within two months of each other. His fix is not the problem. the little metal clip that hold the battery broke free of the green circuit board. There is no way most people can fix this. The solder the connected the two pieces is called cold solder. I took mine to a computer repair shop. They are used to soldering in tight places. 30 minutes labor to fix both. Good as new now. Also, have you worn off the little LOCK & UNLOCK icons on the buttons? Ebay sellers sell just the rubber button piece, very cheap. You replace it the same way allcars showed you. Another also, forget the foil fix. Open the fob and use a pencil eraser on the gold pads. Works better and lasts longer. Also, do this on the inside of the rubber part. That is a metal contact.
