Why do American sports broadcasters/fans talk about "giving their flowers"? Where has this phrase come from? It seems a strange phrase for sport. Where I'm from, giving flowers is normally a thing you do for somebody who is sick, somebody who is grieving, somebody who's moved house, somebody who accomplished something, as an apology, a thank you, or as a romantic gesture. I struggle to connect exactly what this phrase is meant to mean in the context it's being used. Is it meant to equate with an apology of sorts?

The Mavs did get rattled by the Celtics tenacity that’s why they did in a way play worse than they did vs the Thunder for example, PJ Washington and Jones and Kyrie were hitting big open shots vs them but couldn’t do it vs the C’s. Kyrie and role players were day and night against Celtics vs MN. They left all their games and luck in MN i guess, which is too bad. It would've been nice to see kyrie playing well, PJ and others hitting open shots and closer games.
@josephrafferty67635 ай бұрын
MN and Boston are also different animals defensively. I know MN statistically had the "better" offense, but Boston's was far more versatile, had far more guys to throw at Luka and Irving, and stepped it up in a big way defensively in the playoffs.
@mollyweir93505 ай бұрын
It was more than hitting shots. It was paying attention to details, playing dmarter and willingness to do the dirty work. PJ was just ball watching last might instead of grabbing rebounds. How many times did you Jrue filing in & grabbing rebounds last night. Dallas had 13 threes just like Boston but was not attacking as much or crashing the glass resulting in Celtics getting tons of 2nd chance points. Sloppiness w/ the ball leading to some uncharacteristic turn over.

He eventually got it with their fourth championship but it could be argued his performance in two of those earlier championships warranted the MVP that went first to Andre Igoudala and then to Kevin Durant. He never said a word because he has always been a team first player. Jayson Tatum strikes me as a team player as well. He'll have other chances because this is a really fine team.
