My family lived in the third floor apartment shown on fire. Moved there in 1966. I lived there with my Brother until 1989. My Stepfather lived next door. He married my Mother in 1977 eventually moving to Manasquan. Many memories. Jim Costello

i was randomly thinking about this and just reading the comments i just have something to say. roselle isn’t a big town. we’re only 2 squared miles. we have ONE fire department. so what if this would be a 2 alarm fire in NYC. roselle is literally a penny compared to the city

Aw man! That fire looked doable! Top floor fire- any vent? As soon as that master stream went through the window, the building was done. Too bad...

from this video I can't believe anybody could criticize them about an interior attack we don't know what went on before this video started. got a lot of experts chiming in here. at the end of the day if everybody went home unharmed that's the goal in my opinion.

All Departments would have done the same, knock the heavy fire down with master streams, and then send firefighters in, that includes NYFD, see them Evacuate buildings just like every one else, no need to risk lives for property.

FDNY, I’m going up 110 stories to fight fire on 78 where a plane crashed. (Tower 2, Orio Palmer, “we got two isolated pockets of fire we should be able to knock it down with two lines, numerous 10-45’s) 7 minutes before collapse. New Jersey-can’t even go up 4 stories......

These are small towns in Union County, none with a lot of experience. Only a few Union County Departments have some experience. But take Fire Departments like Newark and Jersey City, for example in NJ, you’re looking at the nations finest. Disagree? Check their histories. All the best to all who fight fires, to the guys across the river in NY, to the smallest towns, the volunteers. Stay safe. And thank you. 🇺🇸

Can anyone answer a question? Why did the Fire Department NOT attack the fire from within? I must have missed their evacuation reason.

Looks like they were inside for only a short time. The building was still structurally sound, they could bring more hand lines upstairs, but they went defensive.
@ffjsb
@ffjsb 3 жыл бұрын
There's a VARIETY of reasons. The logistics of taking lines up to the 4th floor, void spaces and false ceilings from being remodeled over the years, allowing fire spread, hoarder conditions, etc. There's NO WAY to tell if a building is structurally sound just from a video. Once the occupants are out, there's no reason to risk lives for property.

@ffjsb

@@jelracer98 A lot of east coast FD's don't send a lot of companies on a fire, so their "alarms" are smaller, hence the amount of "multiple alarm fires. You have to compare apple to apples. And the reason they went defensive is because THEY know the building a lot better than we do.

Sometimes it's better to NOT say anything about what I saw today. But...look at how nice and clean all of the turnout gear was. And bet not using interior attack helped keep everybody available for the press and their camera's. Summation: FIRE TRAINING REALLY WORKS. IF YOU GET ANY.
@poppiarlin5612
@poppiarlin5612 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, this is NOT a defensive attack type of fire. Get your butt inside and do your job. Anyone can be a water squirter standing outside. There is a time and place for using a master stream for a quick knock down but, you had better be ready to go INSIDE and finish the job. In my opinion the ladder pipe accomplished one thing. Spread the fire.
