It's amazing to me the skill some of these pilots have. It's one thing when you are flying a plane that stops working. But when it stops, then starts, then WON'T slow down, and your maintenance crew is telling you "don't sweat it, everything is alright,"...it takes more than good training to get through that. It takes nerves of steel. Great job, crew. And thank you for the upload, Allec.

4:30.....Captain Waters disengages the autopilot and flies manually. This is very likely the most intelligent decision that could have possibly been made. This gave them the ability to dead-stick the airplane all the way to the runway if they needed to. I don't know if the autopilot could have done this but any human pilot who stays in practice can easily handle it. Deploying the RAT (Ram Air Turbine) was another exceptionally good idea. This way, even if both engines and the APU failed, they would still have control of the plane.

I watched en episode of AD on this incident… one of the most important actions by the captain was left out in this video. When the captain was adjusting his thrust levers and receiving no response, the plane was getting dangerously slow, so the captain on a sudden brilliant whim decided to ever so slightly and gently push the E1 thrust lever forward. This some how allowed the contaminated fuel to “bypass/ push through” the clog and begin spooling E1’s thrust up to the 74% which without a doubt saved the plane from a stall. Pretty significant detail haha… good on that crew 🤘 superb airmanship✌️ btw, I love this Channel, I’m Not shxtting on Allec, just thought anyone reading the comments might find this part of the story interesting ✌️

Wow! This type of large scale fuel contamination was something that was always worried about when I was in line maintenance. We had daily sampling and testing from our main storage tanks, but that was only for expected potential contaminants. Being at a training base you could potentially end up with dozens of aircraft in the air all having engine problems at the same time.

In the book about QF32 the Captain made the point that an emergency exit is not fun, he made the point that the atmosphere outside was toxic . I have had both legs broken in fairly freakish accidents., probably break 1 at the spot if I had to go down a slide. Cathay’s A330’s are my favourite aircraft as a passenger with both the new & old interiors. They are reasonably quiet and seem to ride bumps pretty well.

Years ago, when I was an aircraft fueler, we used to keep plastic buckets on our fuel carts just in case we needed to bail rain water out of the hydrant pits so water would not next get mixed into the Jet A kerosene when we connected to the fuel hydrant couplers... Now I understand why.......

+Allec Joshua Ibay. Removal of videos on youtube is a fully automated process controlled by people 'flagging' the video. Some airlines are very sensitive about their aircraft being involved in an emergency, particularly when pilot error is involved, so it was quite likely that they quickly arranged a few of their staff to post sufficient 'flags' to remove the video.

Traffic means another aircraft closeby. Terrain means to close to ground/ mountain. When they went to manual control to land the aircraft proximity system warning went because or the ground comming up.

I wonder if any other planes leaving that airport had contaminated fuel. The pilot did a brilliant job

Just a “good job” Leon? They did brilliantly well. Not depicted, but they did also have some limited flap extended (subject to load relief).

You guys can help me wit this but it seems most planes fly in auto pilot during flights unless a scenario arises or they have a problem or during landing and taking off. So is this accurate that they can mostly let the auto pilot fly when they are cruising in the air. Like is it uncommon now for a plane not to be auto piloted during cruising? Interesting. Thanks for any help

Awesome job pilots! That could have gone very wrong very quickly and they didn't waste time getting an emergency landing and remaining calm during the process.

Superb piloting, Hopefully Airport Fuel Supplies should have mandatory checks after WIP Has been carried out on Tankage and pipelines. Someone's head should roll for. not having checked out the fuel quality after any work had been undertaken. Good Job Cathay Pacific employs the Best of AIrcrew, this flight was handled extremely well.
