As a counterpoint to some of the criticisms I'd just like to say I got one of these yesterday, I've never used a digital mixer before, I'm nothing more than a keen amateur and I've been blown away by how good this mixer sounds and how easy it is to use, it just seems obvious really. For me it's a gamechanger.

Totally agree. It's an awesome piece of gear and easy to use - when you know how. I think these tutorials are just not very good at explaining anything. They point you in a direction and then you figure it out for yourself

this is one of the most easy-to-use digital mixers I have ever seen. it has an analog feeling but with digital processing. If you can't work with this one, it's time to go back to analog. xD

Because the presentation is so fast it looks complicated. but even slowed down I think this the most convuluted way to organise a simple thing like FX. Why should it differ that much from an analogue mixer is beyond me.

Just purchased QU - 16 & 24 digital mixer. I have not viewed any tutorial video memo but am just going through this mixer by way of reading the manual book. Do you have any complete tutorial video? And if you do have them, how much are they or can it be downloaded?

I don't see the Vocal Shifter VS1 in our QU32 FX Library, can you purchase it (or a suite) and add it?

I need help! I have an allen and heath SQ-7 and I haven't found a good effect for vocals and instruments, for example I really like the plate reverb effect of the Yamaha M7CL consoles, I have been trying different effects on the SQ-7 and I haven't found any of them to my liking. I would be very grateful if you could help me 🙏

This is so fast that i can't get it. I'm using a qu-32 at my church and i havent got FX on my sound and the singers keep telling me it sounds really flat even with the GEQ in. I need to learn how to use the FX on the singers and the instruments. Show me a link or better still a better explained version or video. Please.

Sorry! We agree that this video is a bit too fast. I have updated the closed captions in the video so that they are now accurate. You can slow down the video using the speed settings found at the bottom right. For sending channels to the FX you can skip to 1:25. In a nutshell, make sure the required channel and FX Return faders are up in the LR Mix, press the FX Mix you wish to send the channels to, push up the faders for these channels. To send FX to monitors, press the Mix for the monitor and make sure the required FX Return fader is up in this mix! Hope this helps. Thanks. Harry.

Thanks for the tip. I just briefly looked at the beginning of the first GLB tutorial and it's obvious that first of all, that it is slower paced with clear explanations of the QU functions and features and more details are given. When I get home tonight, I'm going to dive into them. Thanks again!

what is the best way to hook up monitor speakers, and or passive /active subs

Hi Yifan, There are many ways to hook up monitors and subs so you just need to find which works best for you. If you want the monitors to follow the main mix for example, you could use a mix output with all channels set to 0dB and post fade, you could also use matrix outputs or the Alt out to do a similar thing. The same could be said for subs. Many active subs have crossovers and outputs built-in, and are intended to be fed with the whole LR mix, which they then pass on to the main speakers. Looks like an incredible mixer and I'm seriously contemplating buying one having used and loved my analogue A&H desk, but coming from a simple to use analogue ZED desk with easy to operate built in effects and general functionality, the QU desk seems seriously complicated for a relatively novice user like myself. The Mackie DL1608 is seriously user intuitive and simple to operate at the same level and is swinging the balance in its favour at the minute... Really undecided. Is there anywhere/anyone that could offer some in depth training with this mixer? I guess over time I would be able to master the QU desk but it seems such a daunting possibility.

Jay Joseph They do have many videos and documents all around the internet, but you will have to learn as you go. It is definately by far not the easiest desk to use, but it sounds great and versatility is awesome.

Please don't by this mixer for the learning curve alone. Buy a Behringer X32 instead. There's a ton of tutorials and help on how to use it. Allen and Heath have zero help or tutorials that apply to daily use.

do i need a lexicon mx200 processor with my qu-16 ? if so what is the best way to connect it to my qu-16 mixer?

Hi Yifan, Whilst it is possible to connect up external FX units, the Qu-16 has 4 FX engines built in. As shown in the video, these are very high quality, and extremely configurable, so I would suggest there is no benifit in connecting your MX200. Thanks, Keith.

Hi, at 1:27 into the video we show how to send a channel to an effect by pressing the required FX mix key and adjusting the channel sends on faders. For more info please see page 38 of the User Guide. Hope this helps.

I did the reverb on channel 2 and not sure how to reverse it or reset it so there's no reverb on there how do u do that? Please reply thanks

Hi Heightz Music, I'm not sure which Qu model you're using, but if you are sending to an FX, you just need to select the correct FX mix and then bring down the fader on channel 2. If you have set up an FX as an insert, then go to the FX page, and tap on the 'Front Panel/Back Panel' button of each effect, until you find which has been set to either 'Insert' or 'Ch->Return'. You can then switch this back to 'Mix->Return' or 'Unassigned' and you should be fine. Cheers! Keith.

I have to agree with you. This guy is just showing us what he knows, without telling us anything. And yes, he is going through it so fast, like there is somewhere else he has to be. The only thing worse than these tutorials is the manual. It is more of a dictionary than a useful explanation. I totally LOVE the Qu-series and highly recommend them. But you have to learn by doing. These tutorials just drive you nuts....

Why not be able to just have what ever effect you like on what ever channel you like without all this sends and return crap?

Dallas, it has to do with processing power and cost/benefit analysis. There's a computer inside these boards and it would take an extremely powerful computer to be able to do what you request. Effects require a lot of processing power. Possible, but would greatly increase the cost of building this same board. Same as in a DAW. You don't use a separate reverb on every track. You create a auxiliary track and slap a reverb on it. Then send whatever sound sources you want to that aux track through the reverb.

This is so unhelpful ! You don't explain how to apply the effects to a channel for use when playing back recorded material or for that matter processing a live signal. This is so disappointing as it is the most complex part of the recorder. Yes the delivery of the tutorial is fast as someone else has commented , but i guess you could re watch a few times and get the gist of things but as you don't cover the process in the first place i find this tutorial pretty useless, Sorry

Hi Phil, sorry that you don't find this video helpful. This is a basic and concise overview of how to use the FX and the capabilities. At 1:25 the video shows you how to send channels to the FX. This is the same for every input channel whether using USB playback or the local input. Select the FX mix and use the channel faders to send the channel signal to the FX. The sends are post fade so those channels must also be up in the LR mix to send to the FX. If you need any more assistance please email [e-mail] and we'd be glad to talk it through. Thanks. Harry.

Thanks ....i have already sent a ticket in and i'm awaiting a reply. I appreciate the support its excellent but i think where the videos are concerned there to brief to really get anything much back from. As it is i can get effects on channels 1-8 but not on the other channels.

Hi Phil, we have your email and will respond to you ASAP. Do you have all of the faders for the channels you want to add FX to up in the LR mix? Without these up, you won't be able to send signal to the FX because FX sends are post-fader (LR). Thanks. Harry.
