That is what the one brass feeler Guage in the set is for. It's non magnetic so you can check the gap without the magnet grabbing it.

The velo solex, my introduction to internal combustion on 2 wheels! We bought it on holiday from a junk shop in France for 25 euros, the address on the suppling dealers label (round the corner) was amazingly still a bike shop and even more incredibly had 2 new Michelins on the shelf. WD40 or similar down the plug hole overnight, old piece of cable bodged into a semi functional HT lead and we were riding around the campsite next day!
@gregtaylor61468 ай бұрын
I bet the other campers on that sight were overjoyed ........ NOT.
@nothanks90508 ай бұрын
@@gregtaylor6146 Actually some joined in with the bodgery or offered advice/tools and others smiled and told us how they used to have one etc. The French appreciate their heritage and younger generations are strongly encouraged to go outside and learn/practice useful skills. We're talking about a few gentle test runs, during the early afternoon in a sparsely occupied and open site, primarily under pedal power as dirty carb and wobbly diy HT lead made for very intermittent and unreliable running. We just wanted to see if it would/could go. You'll be glad to know the hairline crack/split on the underside of the fuel tank leaking the occasional drop of fuel onto the exhaust below ended play fairly quickly.

That’s a nice little battery set up on the ( previously magneto spark bike engine) but it will need a charge before each ride as it doesn’t have an engine driven dynamo. It is lovely though!

Not only the flux gap but also the flux density. It worked when it was new, but these old magnets lose their power over time, so the loss of flux density, plus a large flux gap results in too little power from the magneto to generate a spark.

Great video as always. Alan is a master!! I’d be keen to know what’s been changed that the flywheel air gap is incorrect or at least, can’t be adjusted back?. One more question, how will the battery be recharged? There isn’t an alternator and reg / rec. I suppose for a short ride it doesn’t matter :)
