dan meme Right?. It's basic R&B. And rarely do great R&B singers get their due recognition. It's just the way it works.
@amberd69429 жыл бұрын
Slayer Becky One of the reasons Allen is not getting recognition is because he is from Seattle. Seattle has a lot of great musicians and Artists that are not recognized. This stems from lack of local support and the industry not taking notice of the area. Most of the artist who made it that came from Seattle had to leave Seattle. Artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Sir Mix Alot, Bell and James. The latest and Greatest Maklamore had to leave and do college gigs to get a following. But Allen Stone is great and deserves a lot more attention for sure.

Papa said "son it's the land of the free" as he broke his back tryin to make ends meet this might be the greatest lyric of all time.
@kristopherwente57229 жыл бұрын
+CGagnon5 he was free to break his back to make ends meet. Without freedom, he wouldn't even be able to do that. I loved the other ideas in this song, but that one did not resonate.
@CGagnon59 жыл бұрын
Kristopher Wente you completely missed the point of the song then. In the words of Allen Stone: "I wrote it in the heat of the Occupy movement, and it sounds like an R&B love song but it was a protest song about the way I feel the government operates in this country." The line right before the one I quoted originally is, "Every day taxes increase So is this our land or is this our lease?" He's saying the government is always asking for more money from the people (for things like bank bailouts) and meanwhile people are struggling just to put food on the table. How free can we really be when we can barely make ends meet? hope this help.
@kristopherwente57229 жыл бұрын
+CGagnon5 yah- I got it. I was trying to say that the inference that a man is struggling to make ends meet means he is not free is bollocks. The struggle to make ends meet is the soil of freedom. Freedom comes with struggle. Many can't even struggle to make ends meet. In America to be free to actually make ends meet is also the freedom to NOT make ends meet. I loved the other points he was making, but lyrically, he, in my opinion, took a misstep with that line specifically.
@CGagnon59 жыл бұрын
Kristopher Wente I get that there are plenty of countries worse off than us, but I couldn't possible disagree with you more.. The definition of "freedom" should not stop at "ones ability to work their entire lives to put food on the table" It kills me to know that some people will never get to retire.Imagine being in your 80s or 90s looking back and adding up all the hours of your life you sold to a company. Then try to think how much you'd pay to get those hours back. I'd bet that time s worth much more to you than the minimum 7.25/hr that companies are offering. How can we ever really say we own anything or that we are free when such a small percentage of the population ever makes it out of debt. Most people live their entire lives owing money to someone (house, car, etc) That doesn't sound like freedom to me

If I am not mistaken, this was a video shot before a two week west coast run, and Conan O’Brian saw it and immediately booked him, followed by another late-night show. Dave Matthews signed him, and the rest is history. I know this, because my best friend was asked by Allen to go on this quick run playing drums. My friend was in a band and already booked for that period. Allen said, “we will hook up another time.” Went to moms, made this video and now is a star! Oh, universe....

I’d like to first apologize to Allen stone for finding you and your music soooooo late. American idol brought me here with the duet you did and KILLED it!!!! Your definitely my top 5 artist Music at its purest form. Loves it. Keep it coming

As a life long musician who came out of this era, Allen renews my hope for the future of music. This song is also a powerful conservative statement. That's rare. And couldn't be more relevant or timely.

Saw this young man about 15 years ago, ( I thought it was 10, but my daughter reminds me it was more like 15) doing a live short set in Pioneer Square in Seattle. It was part of a live music lunch concert series, put on to introduce upcoming artist. I remember being absolutely blown away by his talent. During a break in the set I approached him to tell him how gifted I felt he was and that his vibe put me in the mind of Stevie Wonder. He was so humble, gracious and said he truly appreciated that. This guy is the real deal. The entire set was flawless soul. What a gifted musician Allen Stone is.

1st time in my life, I'm hearing this song...& from the 3rd note, I had to stop my multi tasking, too see who is this...& I've lost count how many times, I've said DAMN, DAMN, DAMNNNN...this is absolutely STELLAR, I was blown away. This is precisely why I play random Acoustic playlist...hoping to find absolute diamonds like this. You guys should be performing for millions but trash is the in thing with today's media/people, how sad. I just want whoever uploaded this Joy to life gem...that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

4:00 Look at them. Each one of them is getting lost in the music. This is real, and as much as you can experience it from a video, it's such a different experience when you're apart of it as a musician. This the main reason I respect Allen Stone so much, his music is so real that you can actually see others get lost in it along with yourself. Simply amazing
