Woody Allen says that the joke throughout Manhattan, the basis for the movie to begin with, was supposed to be about how the age gap presented so many differences in how they live, what they read, what they watch, how they perceive the world. It was NY in the 70s & not uncommon for a 17 year old to have a relationship with someone older (it's legal), but the much older part was the theme, not in a salacious way, but like how can they even find common ground when they're from two different generations. Woody is exceptionally intelligent & educated but so socially stupid he never even thought about what it would look like...neither did the studio, the producers, the public, or any of the film critics at the time. It's a great movie. It also gives the power to Tracy, played by Mariel Hemingway, because she states exactly what she's going to do with her life. He doesn't get a say in that. He's left stunned by her maturity.

There's a really interesting documentary on KZbin called By the Way, Woody Allen is Innocent. It's on Rick Worley's channel. It just takes documents, interviews, doctor's reports, law enforcement reports, newspaper articles, & presents it all in a really interesting straightforward way. I think it's very worth watching because it's not based on family members talking about something they said they never wanted to talk about, but about what was said by the family, the news, the nannies, the therapists, the forensics teams at the time.

They may not have "lived together" but once they had two children together & he adopted Moses as well, he was there FIRST thing every morning bEFORE breakfast-he was obsessed with seeing Dylan as often as possible. He would come to visit the apartment that Mia owned for dinner as well or to see the kids. He was comfortable in her home and spent long periods of time in the house in Connecticut. He had relationships with the kids.

The issue about the royal title was not having Sussex as a part of it - they remain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The issue was that Harry and Meghan trademarked “Sussex Royal” and the Queen told them if they weren’t working royals, they couldn’t use the word Royal. They were also told not to use the title HRH (His or Her Royal Highness) -which is reserved for high ranking members of the royal family, especially those that are senior working royals. These Palace decisions aren’t made out nastiness - it’s because it’s a problem to have people making commercial gain from royal titles - hence the removal of royal from the trademark and the retirement of the use of HRH. And, Mia was with Andre Previn - not Pervin. He’s a world famous pianist.

I think your Brit (I’m also a Brit) was trying to fit too much in. Honestly I think it was less racism and more about her being American (the last royal who fell in love with an American (the queens uncle) abdicated the throne and I think they supported the Nazi’s) so there’s not a great history. Secondly, they said they wanted to leave for privacy, and it feels like all they’ve done since leaving is support American charities (when they could be doing great work and Harry always has, for charities in the UK) and seek media attention so it’s easy for Brits to feel bitter. Plus everyone loves Diana so it’s sad to see her son leave.
