It is an awesome antenna. I swore off wire antennas when I invested in the buddipole system, but I've gravitated back after using this antenna. I have 20 feet of Mastrant line off the end of the wire with a 4oz weight on the end of that. Easy to stow and deploys in minutes. The winder is really nice too ;) ;)

Thanks! I am loving it! Its so hard to find a well built antenna - that isn't always in high demand. Although I hope the same goes for them as they are a great company!

I have one of these and love it. Lightweight and very effective.

Mine had a near perfect 1.1-1.2 swr across the ssb sections of 40 and 10. 1.3-1.5 on 20 and 15 and my G90 easily tuned it on 80m, 17, and 12m. Right out of the box no adjustments required. Didn't try 60 or 30m I use mine with a 7m telescoping fishing pole, 18ft of truck stop coax, tucked behind my truck seat with my x5105. Super budget pota setup. I actually had it set up at my qth for a few days and it performed equally to my myantennas 40-10lp

Wow, your setup is like a hidden gem! Who knew you could achieve such great results with a fishing pole and truck stop coax? You've definitely got the budget POTAs on lockdown!

Looks great. I love that they give you the option of silicone insulated wire. I find that the PVC insulated wire tangles really easily. Silicone is great. I bought a so-called "Trail Ready" antenna and the wire was a nightmare in the field. Wasted so much time getting it off rocks and bushes. Develops kinks really easily too. Silicone seems to mainly pull through obstacles because it's so flexible. There's a question mark over its durability but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I completely agree with you! Silicone insulated wire is definitely a game-changer when it comes to avoiding tangles and kinks. It's so much more flexible and durable than PVC wire. It's great that the option is available!

Your setup is undoubtedly light weight and compact. RG-316 has very high loss particularly for 15-10m. I would use LMR-240 or RG-8x for better performance. Even then keep the cable short. The radiation patterns for very long wires whether vertical, horizontal or sloping are rather complex on the higher frequency bands. Radiation patterns differ quite a bit for the various bands and depends on wire orientation and height. Verticals that, for instance, use a 17 ft adjustable whip produce more predictable radiation but don't fold up into the pocket. Vertical wires of appropriate length are also possible. A Rybakov antenna (vertical wire) would require an 8m pole, a 4:1 UNUN and a tuner but has decent low angle radiation for 40 to 10m with decent patterns.

Woah, you just dropped some serious antenna knowledge! Thanks for the tips and recommendations. I'll make sure to keep the cable short and consider different wire orientations. Cheers!

What does the balun do? Difference between 49:1 vs. 9:1
@N1JUR Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question! The balun is an essential component in any antenna system. It helps convert between balanced and unbalanced signals, ensuring smooth and efficient communication. As for the difference between 49:1 and 9:1, it refers to the impedance ratios that the balun can handle. Each ratio has its own specific applications and it's important to choose the right one for your setup.

@@N1JUR thank you so much for your reply. It's interesting to me how simple and yet complex antenna can be!

Why is a balun fed long wire a game changer 😂
@N1JUR Жыл бұрын
Thank you for bringing up the topic of balun-fed long-wire antennas! They are indeed a game changer in the world of amateur radio. They offer improved performance, reduced noise, and better signal strength. It's great to see people interested in optimizing their setups. When doing lightweight activations, small and portable is definitely a game changer.

It's at an unun, it's a blaun. 49:1.

Just another me-too design with 49:1 balun, no way a game changer. The end-connected windom is 1-2 'S' units above these commercial bores.
