Alliance to Crawford, NE in 4k - Fall 2023 - Coal w/DPUs and detaching on the fly - CP and BNSF. This was another good day in Nebraska. Trains are all over this state and there are tons of coal trains on the BNSF. I was lucky and got a CP leader at Crawford, NE (Saw Logging Road). Even though I may have put Crawford, NE as the location on the video, the Crawford location is actually on Saw Logging Road. There is a nice big curve there and the trains are pushing hard up the hill. I also was able to hit Belmont, NE. The video had some shake to it at this location for two of the videos towards the end. It was incredible to see the helpers detach as the train was moving as I had never see that in person. If you like coal, this one is for you.

Every train had a DPU except the helpers descending Crawford Hill, but they were DPUs on other trains.

Thanks! Great place to watch coal trains and love that the helpers are still there. Brings back some great memories. Good sound too. Thanks. Amazing how many EMD’s there are on these trains. I was lucky to get invited into a cab of an SD70mac north of Alliance during my first visit to this area and the conductor said they really didn’t want GE’s on their trains as the EMD’s were better suited to that type of work. That was before 9/11 so unlikely to happen again. I’m glad you liked the area and whilst Nebraska has a reputation for being just flat land this place changes that! Again, another great video helped by your choice of locations. Well done. Richard.

I was going to say that we should meet in Nebraska to see if you could hook that up, but when you said pre 9 11, it made much more sense. Happy New Year to you and your family. I am ending the year playing trains in Kingman and Topock. I found a new spot and I will email you about it later tonight or this weekend

So different than when I worked there in 76!

Were you maintenance of way or train and engine? What was different?

@@Atsf1976 I was in the engineer training program. We went through the tunnel. I was there 75/76 timeframe.

@@qzepher That's pretty cool. The tunnel is there, but the trains don't go through it as you will be able to see when I get my drone video done. How long did you work for the BN?

@@Atsf1976 I transferred to the Chicago Division in April 76 as an engineer, worked Clyde Yard switch engines, Cicero to lacrosse Wisconsin through freight, suburban trains Aurora to Chicago. 30 years with BN 5 years starting early 70’s split between CRI&P and the EJ&E.
