The troubling practice of de-banking has been on the rise, and now government officials are monitoring groups with views they dislike. Learn more: adflegal.org/press-release/re...
In March 2024, Jeremy Tedesco, Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel and Senior Vice President of Corporate Engagement, testified before the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government about the issue of de-banking.
Documents released by the subcommittee revealed that the U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network shared a hyper-partisan list of so-called “hate groups” with some of the nation’s biggest banks and urged them to monitor the groups for domestic terrorist threats. The list included ADF and other mainstream religious and conservative organizations.
This disturbing revelation came right on the heels of multiple de-banking incidents, including Bank of America abruptly closing the account of Indigenous Advance Ministries, a Christian nonprofit based in Tennessee that serves those in need in Uganda.
Jeremy spoke to Eric Metaxas about the dangers of de-banking and the importance of holding government officials accountable if they engage in or encourage this reprehensible practice.
