Jack declined to create a custom cake celebrating and symbolizing a "gender transition" because that cake expresses messages he does not believe. After an unsuccessful complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, the attorney suing Jack filed a separate lawsuit in state court. In June 2024, Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Jake Warner presented oral argument in the case before the Colorado Supreme Court.
After the argument, ADF attorneys Jonathan Scruggs and Bryan Neihart discussed some of the points the justices raised and detailed the reasons why they should issue a decision protecting Jack's freedom.
