For all you guys prepping go to uni, some unsolicited advice: try to be as certain as you can about what you're getting into. Don't get too caught up in buzzwords and reputations. Choose your program wisely, and be critical about the education you're getting. 4-5yrs is not a small amount of time. Also, whatever you do, put your *health first* , mental and physical. You won't see many Canadian students make so many school applications. The majority apply to the main uni in their home province and a much smaller number will apply to 3-4 outside of their province. This video is a bit self serving. Showboating perhaps ?????

@@abouttime5000 hi i'm not sure how many students you have connections with or how old you are, but i know manyyy people that applied to around the same number of programs as me. i'm from ontario soo care to enlighten me on what the "main uni" is? oh right...different universites are known for different programs and there isn't one main one. for example waterloo soft eng is a standout program with a low acceptance rate along with queens commerce even though the schools themselves aren't as highly ranked as for example the university of toronto. i don't know how much experience you have with the application process, but as a student that cares about academics, it is important to me to get into a good program. most of them have low acceptance rates and the chances of getting in are slim, hence why i applied to multiple. then, i wanted to have safeties just in case, hence applications to smaller ones in my city. i only applied to one school out of province (mcgill) and they make you pay the cost for two applications even if you only want to apply to one - hence why i ended up applying to two anyways. when i was first starting the application process i wasn't too sure what i wanted to study and my physics mark was also not the best so i was scared i wasn't going to get into any good programs that i wanted to get into.i still believe that it's better to be safe than sorry though! looking back now, i definitely think i could have applied to like half the amount of programs but when you're going through the process it was definitely reassuring to know that i would most likely get in SOMEWHERE. some people know for sure what they want to study at a very young age and it takes others some time to figure it out. i have friends who only applied to a few, but they knew what they wanted to do so they only hd to focus on one discipline. on the other hand, i was undecided and wanted to keep my options open. hope this explained it a little more.

Congratulations! I finished my first year at UofT Life Sci (super stressful, but all for the name brand lmao). McMaster health sci means you are practically a medical doctor already (they are the best, and UofT medical school accepts McMaster kids at a greater amount to their own). Of course, this is getting at if you are interested in medicine? You are a gold standard student. I have a feeling you will become an important person in the future. Ahh yes, Geomatics at Waterloo. The program that the Waterloo CompSci rejects get placed into. Not including direct applicants. Waterloo>UofT for undergrad imo. UofT>Waterloo for graduate school in most cases. I would still choose Waterloo ECE Co-op over UofT EngSci PEY imo and tough out co-op or just network on my own for summer positions.

@@dkmodder4405 EngSci @ UofT is pretty sick. Coop is pretty cool, but noone goes there for any other reason other than Coop. People go to UofT to actually learn, whereas UW its pretty much coop as the only reason. Yea coop sets you well for jobs, but it doesnt set you up for "prestige". Education wise, EngSci blows every program out of the water. Also comparing to top US schools, I dont think UW or UofT even come close.

Its not that bad lol. More than 15% end up staying at UofT CS. Id say 40% of the original first year graduates with a degree in CS. Source: Im from UofT CS. You are among the smartest at UofT CS, as its quite competitive. So you get that extra respect. But if you got UW CS, then obviously go there. As for UW CE, it depends if you like CE or CS, if you like CE then go UW.

choose Waterloo. U of T has such a huge campus you either have to leave one class early to make the next one or stay in the first one knowing you'll be late for the second. U of T has a weeding out process in first year as well. Waterloo is more hip.

This whole attitude of going into medicine for the prestige and money is wrong. Students have become so competitive now that they choose medicine like acquiring a trophy. This does not do the patient or yourself any service. In fact the whole student movement now is get into medicine (with any undergrad degree as long as you get the necessary marks) and then into a lucrative specialty after that. Why in heavens name are students doing Music degrees, engineering or commerce and then applying to Medicine ? Worst yet, why are medical schools accepting them ?

haha...too many...when i was first starting the application process i wasn't too sure what i wanted to study and my grades also werent the best (back then) so i was scared i wasn't going to get into any good programs. i think i applied to 11 or 12? mcgill's pricing is a little different because its out of province but the overall amount was quite hefty. better safe than sorry though! looking back now, i definitely think i could have applied to like half the amount of programs but when you're going through the process it was definitely reassuring to know that i would most likely get in SOMEWHERE :)

haha i answered a similar question earlier so i'm just going to copy paste my response from there: "my average for cs/health sci was 94.8 and for ce it was 92.8 as for ecs, i really don't think it's the quantity that matters. everyone joins a bunch of clubs or does extracurriculars just cause that's what they think universities want to see and then they aren't able to stand out. i would recommend doing things that you are truly passionate about and enjoy even though they might not be the most conventional. personally, i had a large focus in athletics - playing high performance volleyball and regional competitive soccer which gave me the opportunity to get some leadership opportunities in these areas (ie. referee, school coach). i participated in like 3-4 clubs but i wasn't that involved in most of them and only wrote about 1 in my applications. other ecs include grade 10 piano, co-founder of a small jewelry business & freelance content creator/photographer :) nothing crAzY like on those reddit threads but everything i did was because i enjoyed them and was thus able to right about them with more passion and reflection on lessons that i've learned. i truly believe that with these its quality >> quantity :) hope this helped & best of luck with your applications xx"

Whoa congrats on passing most of them!!!! I’ve gone around UofT and McGill when I went travelling just last month - Montréal is beautiful and McGill is literally in the heart of the city!!! (And the city is literally uphill lol) If you wanna be surrounded by Québécois so you could speak some French, consider McGill!! I mean, you should consider the environment you’re gonna wanna study/live in for your uni life (trust!!! This question is very vague.. what's the program that you want to be doing? The three hardest undergrad program at uoft (downtown) is engineering, comp sci and rotman (best to have close to mid to high 90s average while rotman requires a high 80 to low 90 with decent ECs).

Andrew said it very well! there are different requirements for each program - some like engineering are more competitive to get into while others are less :) the ones he listed are generally the ones that are the hardest to get accepted into but if you want to look for specific requirements they definitely have them online: just type in 'uoft undergraduate viewbook' and you'll be brought to a pdf document with a table competitive averages near the end :)
