Love that Aussie Gold color! Looking at this bike now vs. the Revel, Open, Santa Cruz, and Ibis gravel bikes.

I would love to know a bit more about putting on 650b wheels, how that affected the bike, tire clearnce, any adjustments necessary in making that change, and your thoughts on making that modification.

Love the BSA bottom bracket. I'm never going to get a BB30 or push in BB again.

Great review JOM! I really like the idea of bikes that can do road and gravel like this. The Aussie colors are great! I just thought the cicadas was outside my house when watching the video 😁. I could see myself being lazy and only doing the front flip chip to make the front end steeper for road.

I am getting a new secret not release bike in May but it is probably going to be released by then since the race season for it starts soon. I am planning on doing the same thing with two wheelsets.

Great review, seems like a LOT of work and small pieces to keep track of. I appreciate the Allied ethos, but cannot personally stomach the prices. I wish some of these truly innovative companies would produce AL versions.

Great review! How did it ride with the 650b wheels?

Would you say the dropout reversal position is a dramatic change or more of a subtle one? Do you actually change positions and if so when and why?
@GravelCyclist3 жыл бұрын
Subtle, I would leave the bike in gravel mode much of the time, others may prefer to switch about.

That’s pretty cool setup on the wheel change.

For that price you can buy two decent bikes that do their job much better (at least the gravel part).

Especially the last thing I want to do is spend 15 minutes before each ride switching my bike back and forth between gravel setup and road setup. Then you will have wear from the constant changing back and forth. I've even gotten so lazy that my road bike still has the climbing setup and it was 3 months ago when I was in the mountains with it. LOL!
@SenorGonzo3 жыл бұрын
@@DaveCM That problem can easily be solved by buying a dedicated climbing bike. Think of all the time saved not having to change cassettes etc.

Hey Jom, What is the real width of the 38 panaracer on this set up? 40? 42 actual width would fit Fr & Bck? Thanks!
@GravelCyclist3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jean, about 40mm. 42 actual width would fit, good room on the rear, the front, it will work but be tight.

Outstanding review and content as always, but I'm struggling to understand how changing the chips in the fork and rear end changed the effective (or actual) top tube length. I think you mentioned that. Gotta say as well, comments (rooted firmly in truth and reality for sure) that an owner of this bike might try to use an adjustable wrench to work on it because they don't have the proper sized wrench, make my blood boil. So, you say you have a $10,000 bicycle but somehow can't go to Home Depot and spend $10 on a few wrenches to properly work on it? Many people spending $10k on a bike would take it to the bike shop and pay to have a mechanic flip the chips though, such is their utter worthlessness. I see Pinarello/ Colnago guys who take their entire bike (not just the wheel) into a bike shop to have them repair a flat tire.
@GravelCyclist3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. You figured this out already, the adjustable wrench segment was recorded on behalf of those who insist on not using proper tools. I forgot to include a snippet of the tool that Allied supply with the bike for the headset pre-load and chip removal, but there is a photo of it in the related article on the GravelCyclist.com website.

Yeah.....I want one.

I'm not sure there's really a point to the flip chips. It's not quick enough (especially when DB fettling is factored in) for anybody to do with any frequency, and almost anybody in the market for a bike (or frameset) this dear, is likely to have enough disposable income (and space) for a gravel and road bike. Seems like "we did it because we could".

You can always have mechanical shifting if you like it, I have done it with 2023 TIME. Just by using compressionless cables without any modification to the frameset. This changing geometry "trick" has been done several years ago by Polish bike brand Rondo on almost all of their bikes. Allied bikes are far too expensive, it reaches price of super bikes but doesn't offer anything beyond regular layup carbon, or special" feature or design.
@GravelCyclist Жыл бұрын
Indeed, I recorded a video of the Rondo brand at Sea Otter a few years ago. Pretty much everyone copied their idea.
