I look forward to all the uploads of this story, outstanding narrative voice ! Refreshing to hear the prospective of the evil germans, we are all just children of God, all the same, doing our duty to our country that our crazy power hungry leaders require of us. Guess that will never end. Thank you for your efforts to share all this history with us.

I find this site to be extremely good. Concise, straight forward, easy to follow and, I'm assuming, historically accurate. Certainly comes across as genuinely accurate. Poor to middling sites are everywhere and good sites are like a welcome brease. Great work. I learn so much, especially the motivation for various military moves. Seems like Hitler could be a brilliant leader and strategist on some occasions, able to inspire battle hardened troops, and a drug addled stupid tyrant, on others. By turns almost. Seems to me that as the inspirational speaker for both troops and civilians, he was unmatched. But when he got too 'hands on', especially in withdrawal, he stumbled over linguistics, troop and supply movements and communication issues, finally loosing the plot completely as the Russians approached Berlin. Still, history tells that he refused to run and save his own (or dear ones) lives. They payed the personal price demanded by honour and therefore can be cosidered real war heros. Forced into war by the intransagent French/British demands of the Versailles treaty and consequent impoverishment of Germany, and propelled to the top job by the great depression in the most unlikely way, he really had no choice. France/Britain were cruelly determined, and Germany was dying. Quite newly condensed into a German speaking confederation, with Battle wise generals and soldiers in abundance left over from previous wars, what else could happen? 'What could possibly go wrong', as we say today. Best military brains, scientists and engineers in ballistics, TANKS,, the blitz warfare stratagy and a great leader. Linguistics, recourse management of coal, steel rubber communications is some cases and his own belief in intrinsic German superiority let him down. Interference with his generals let him down. Starlins mistrust and the murder of many of his own generals helped Hitler out, as did (arguably) purging his own 'brown shirts' in a timely way. In the end, I reckon, it was the Russian winter that won the war, same as for Napoleon centuries earlier. The cold toughened and determined Russian ordinary rank and file soldier, combined with linguisticlly challenged German front line hard men. Superb fighters indeed, but nobody can fight when food and arms run out. Europe would be utterly different if Germany had won, no question. But unlike the self important Americans, I do not think it necessarily would be worse. ALL sides committed war crimes, and made stupid decisions. I'm glad Hitler and British both found communism abhorrent. I believe that Hitler genuinely did not want to invade Britain and saw the British as equals and potential allies, along with her colonies. I think Hess was sent to make sure that happened and was stonewalled by Churchill. The English channel is an ideal border boundry line, and Hitler said as much in his book. If we take him at his word over his hatred of Jews, why not also of his admiration of the British? We all got what we deserved. Its just a pity we didn't deserve more. Ps, sorry about my spelling 😢

Mostly accurate, but from various memoirs and books written after the war. Also, both sides did try to destroy records to varying levels of success. Also, how long after and how many others were interviewed plays a role in accuracy. Japanese writers had another problem, they believed in fighting to the death so many died before the end of the war.

Yes absolutely. As Nancy says, many of the greatest heros pn all sides, of necessity almost, died and so their full deeds of valour were never told. The bravest were often those who took the greatest risks and exposed themselves to enemy fire. And they died therefore. We can also say that those who recorded their war experiences were more likely to live on in our collective memories. Again, we must always remember that it is the winners who write the history of war, control the narrative. If the Germans had won,the history would laud them, certainly. Anyway the loudest are often not the bravest.
