Came upon the same gator two years ago and turned around. Two minutes later there's a guy on a bicycle coming towards me. When I asked him how he got around the gator he said he just picked up his bike and jumped over it. Said the gator was harmless. I'll continue to err on the side of caution.

The thing is people think they are slow movers. They are NOT. They can run at 9 MPH. And they do it from laying around to reaching that speed. VERY unpredictable. I honor you, Tim lol

Not that wise run pass gators. Very easy to drive gators off the trail is to use long twigs just knock it’s back or hit hard if it aggressive. Actually all gators are aggressively and crawl like boss, you guys pick up solid clay or rock then aim hard to it’s belly. They will crawl away faster, it won’t hurt them because they have strong skin. When you hiking like, just look for dried twigs about 7 foot or longer with you to drive gators off the trail. They will back for sunbathe to digest food in their stomach. When youdon’ Have anything just use your urinary to make clay then aim at it face as hard to drive them away. Your urinary actually yummy for them as scent of meat for their food. So don’t pee in water while you across the water. Animals don’t understand they will just ran away when you throw anything at their face or hands. Hope you guys don’t let your body parts in gators stomach, they have very strong bite force to break your bones and spin to tear your flesh.

What would you actually do if one of them got you? Seems a little risky. Why not get a really long branch and bother him until he moves?

This March I was trying to get to the Fakahatchee Hilton. The trail was narrow and edges overgrown. And water was up. I didn't see the gator until I almost stepped on its tail. It hissed at me. I would have gone on but was worried there may be more of the same up ahead.

They can run super fast. Not sure they attack humans on land but in water it's another story. What a monster, lying there waiting for some little animal to get near. He's probably at least 20 years old and wise enough to leave humans alone. They never stop growing.
