Beautiful country down there. Be careful around gators. They are faster than you think and can jump out of the water to grab prey. I used to have one that lived in the bayou out front that liked to bask on the patio. My daughter came to stay for a while and was on a lounge. The gator eased up next to her and went to sleep. She saw him and eased off the other side of the lounge and beat-feet into the house! She quickly learned to sunbathe on the back side of the house! Enjoy your time down here! Thanks. I love watching gators!

I learned a lot from Robbie at "Get Swamped". He goes on gater calls to capture them where people live. So many people walk their dogs along paths by lakes, to get into life and death struggles to get their dogs back from a gator but they never win. They can run short spurts and jump kinda. Robbie has a big pond full of the gaters he catches and some are trained to understand words. its really crazy!

@MrMustangMan6 күн бұрын
you are so wrong, it's not even funny......... On land, an alligator’s top speed in very short bursts can reach 30 miles per hour. When swimming, however, they’re a little slower-topping out at 20 miles per hour. This is still much faster than a human swimmer. We average at only 2 miles per hour.

Thanks post 10 for sharing this nice tour in the Everglades and all the other enter-/edutaining episodes throughout this year; and Merry Christmas to you! Though no classic `beaver dam unclogging´, it’s been very interesting to see different landscape (and who is in control of guarding culverts 😉 - say Hi to friendly gator 🐊). Quite amused about some distances mentioned here; e.g. 05:32 “it takes me an hour to drive down … both sides of the road … the entire area is flooded”. There’s small swamp (tiny gem with beaver family active there and one can also spot e.g. the common kingfisher sometimes) in my area which I’m able to pass on the gravel road going through within less than 5 mins with my bicycle 😂. Well, and considering you’ve been driving from Maine down to Florida while still staying within the US: on the globe, Maine US is bit more south compared to the Alps in Central Europe, whereas Florida US is approximately on same latitude as Egypt in North Africa (I took country which one would associate with the gators living there; the Nile 🐊crocodiles). Well, between Europe and Africa, there’s also this pond called `Mediterranean Sea´ (else would be lengthy tour around going via the Near East by car).

@@MrMustangMan In September 2023, a 13-foot-8.5-inch alligator was killed after a resident saw it latching onto human remains in a canal in the Tampa Bay area. Other recent alligator attacks in Florida include: February 2023 An 85-year-old woman was killed by a 10-foot alligator in Fort Pierce while walking her dog. The alligator grabbed her foot and dragged her into a pond. April 2023 The body of a 2-year-old boy named Taylen Mosley was found in the mouth of an alligator in Lake Maggiore in St. Petersburg. The Pinellas Medical Examiner confirmed that the cause of death was drowning.
