A thousand years ago, I remember my father raking the rotting windfalls from our family orchard into a hole, while surrounded by a huge swarm of angry wasps. In his quiet and logical voice, he'd explain to us that the wasps couldn't make the connection between one end of the rake & himself on the other. As long as he was calm & gentle, he never got stung. We used to view this as some kind of witchcraft.

Chat gpt: Yes, beavers can get stung by hornets. Like most mammals, beavers have skin that can be penetrated by the stingers of hornets, and they can experience pain and swelling from the sting. However, their thick fur might offer some protection, reducing the likelihood or severity of stings in certain areas of their body.

Chat gpt: Yes, beavers can also get stung by wasps. Similar to hornets, wasps can penetrate a beaver's skin with their stingers. However, the thick fur of a beaver might offer some protection, especially on areas like the back and sides. In areas where their skin is more exposed, such as the face or underbelly, they would be more vulnerable to stings.

Great job Post10 In the heart of the forest, where trees touch the sky, A task begins at the break of day, A long gasp and then sigh, White faced hornets descend from the sky Man and rake, against the clogged culvert's might, While beavers of brown observe from the river's height. Their anger unseen, in the quiet forest's hush, In the dance of the branches, in the rustling rush. The man's work continues, with respect in his core, Aware of the watchful eyes, of the angry beavers lore. The culvert's clear, the water rushes through, The beavers' home, a harmony to pursue. In this shared space, a lesson to unfold, Of respect, of peace, in the forest's hold.

I had to Google white faced hornets - we don't have them in the UK. Apparently they're not true hornets but are a close relative of yellow jackets, or what we call wasps. They have a nasty sting but are unusual in that they can also spray their venom into the face and eyes of any intruder. Oh, and they can recognise faces. Disturb them once and they will fly past other people to attack you again!
@Batmann_4 ай бұрын
They're a bit more accurately/correctly called bald-faced hornets. And you're correct that they're a species of yellowjacket, which are wasps. But...all hornets are wasps. So, it gets a bit confusing (= Yellowjackets, Bald-faced hornets, paper wasps, Asian giant hornet, etc, are all wasps (but bees are not).
