I use a WD, D-17, 175, 180, & a 220. They are all diesel except the WD. I use the WD & D-17 for light duty work like running augers, raking hay, & rearranging equipment. The 175 has a Massey Ferguson loader on it. I use it to move hay bales & other light to medium duty jobs. I use the 180 for pulling a 12 row John Deere planter, bushhog mowing, & pulling 2 200 bushel wagons at harvest. I use the 220 to pull a 15' Great Plains drill, bale hay, pull 2 200 bushel wagons in wet weather, & bushhogging. I also use an Agco Allis 9675 & a CAT45. I use the CAT45 mainly for tillage & cart duty. For combines, I use a John Deere 8820 Turbo & a Gleaner R-52. My cousin has a D-15, 190, & a D21 that we used to use on the farm until he retired a couple years ago.

I heard/rerad someplace the moldboard plowing was making a comeback as it is more efficient at controlling weeds. When no-till/less-till entered the scene in my area (50+ years ago), I remember my dad talking with a local farmer who had tried it. He mentioned that the money he saved on tillage was easily spent on an increase, both in frequency & quantity, of herbicide applications.

I run 7580 on 12 row planter, anhydrous tool bar, and grain cart. But have 7060, 7045 for spraying and 7010 for mowing, small grain cart. 7010 I would never guess could handle 12 row planter. Thats impressive.

Oh yeah even has liquid on the planter also. Duel it up and away with it we go. Pull her at 5mph up and down rolling ground. These tractors I think are under estimated on their horse power. Occasionally pull a 6 bottom semi mounted plow and a 18 foot disk.

My dad had bought the same setup a 7580 with an Allis 7 bottom semi mounted plow brand new back in 1979 his had 24.5/32 single tires on it. Was traded off in 1986 for a caseih 4494 and a White 7 bottom plow. Both tractors ran a 1250 Gehl chopper the rest of the season. I really miss them old days.

There is an Allis Chalmers boneyard south of Durand, WI. I drove by it last Sunday. Good place for tractors and parts. Another subject though, seeing all that black dirt turned over is disturbing. I just drove on I-35 in southern Minnesota today and all the black dirt in the ditches of this no snow year is painful to see. No Till and light tillage is the way to go if you want to keep your soil.

We grew up with Allis tractors and Gleaner combines. I remember grandpa's D17; dad still has his 1982 8010 and a 1973 185. I remember when he brought the 8010 home. She was a huge step up from the 966. We could talk to each other and hear the radio😂😂😂😂 He still runs a 21 foot Krause disk and a 22 foot IH field cultivator. The 8010 doesn't do much field tillage anymore. He leaves that to the 3545 Massey and the 7220 CIH

I asked my local dealer why they do that and he said it's because people keeps buying the same product and that ertl won't dip their toes into something else. My father & grandfather sold AC tractors & combines in south central Michigan from the mid 1930's until early 70s. AC had many good designs and engineering breakthroughs, but overall my Dad said AC always came up with too little to late. WD-45's sold well, but soon farmers wanted row crop tractors with high wheels and straight axles, and more power. AC gave them the D17, and later D19. Neither had row crop axles, and no 3 pt hitches until later series. By the late 60's the AC parent company (electric generation, industrial products) was in decline due to bad decisions through the 50's, and therefore couldn't adequately fund the research the Ag Div. needed to stay competitive with JD and IH. The new AC 70's big tractors showed promise, but needed better engineering for durability; again too little too late....majority of farmers had moved on to green and red.

Why always mention PTO HP when you describe an engine ? It is not accurate, is it?
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 3 ай бұрын
From the 1960s to the early 2,000’s all tractor manufacturers used pto hp to market a tractors power level. From the 1950’s back they used belt hp and today it’s engine hp. I use the original sales brochures to report the specs on these tractors, and I use what those listings showed for a horse power rating.

I don’t understand how farmers are doing it these days…to buy something comparable today would cost you over $400k…you could likely buy that tractor with the plow for under $50k…I would never buy new stuff today…I would buy multiple used tractors at a much lower cost and have the redundancy in case you had a tractor go down…fix up the old stuff to like new condition and run it!..new tractors today are just out of this world in price!…that old Allis is in gorgeous condition!

@@Beyonder8335 I agree with the technology when it comes to planting!…it really does make it so much easier and much more precise…but like you said you don’t really need much tech to pull a plow.
