My favorite blues song, by my favorite band not named the Beatles, with three of my favorite living guitarists all taking monster solos, with one of my favorite vocalists, one of my favorite bassists, and as good as a rhythm section as you'll ever find. Does it get any better than this. Lord have mercy. But wait the even better news is He already did.!!!

I love to see all those who are probably "stunningly wonderful musicians" slagging off one who has been playing for 50 years and is STILL FILLING GIGS..May you be so lucky - or talented...I think possibly not...who would know your name if it were on the front of the Albert Hall ?? As a guitarist who has been playing and singing for the same time... I wish I were half as good. I never will be, but don`t bad mouth people who changed the whole outlook of a generation in the 60`s and still cab

Great performance! Excellent guitar playing, killer slide work by Derek Trucks. Eric Clapton being there was a nice touch since he and Duane Allman were good friends. (I don't think the Clapton's Layla album would have been the same without Duane..!) And don't forget... Gregg Allman still has one of the best blues singing voice you'll ever hear in a hundred lifetimes. Skydog was surely smiling down from Heaven when this was made.

The Strat fits perfectly with the Gibsons that Haynes and Trucks are playing. And as great as Haynes and Trucks sounded, I think Clapton brought it home. He's using the darker #4 position of neck/middle pickups (darker than any use of the bridge, that is). But I'm a Strat player myself, and prefer single coil Strats and Teles to Les Pauls and SGs.
@classicbob606410 жыл бұрын

Clapton just constructs better solos with a lot of dynamics plus subtle flourishes on slow blues than...crap...anyone. Fluidity of both conception and execution is his strength. He's always "musical".

I and many others disagree. Trucks himself has had only good things to say about Eric in interviews. I have always admired the largely traditional roots of Eric's approach. ALSO Clapton has applied his approach to more styles of music than any other blues-based player I can name. He doesn't live in 1968 and plays with the guitars and tones HE prefers.

I'm not sure I agree with you there - typically single coils are brighter and punchier while humbuckers (double coils) are warmer and fatter. The notable exception is the Gibson P-90 single coil pickup which is strong and fat. But pretty much all fender single coils are known for being bright and punchy. Just listen to Clapton's solo - it's a lot thinner and brighter sounding.
@42CAINE12 жыл бұрын
Miss the days of duane, barry Oakley and Dickey betts Derek is the son of Butch Trucks the drummer Right? His performance and Warren's can stand with Clapton easily
@F3FisGoodforYou11 жыл бұрын
what do you mean ? Perso I think Allman Brother is using too much mixolydian minor 9 chords, especially on the 15th measure of each bridge. Other than that it's good but there is room for progression.
@jameszasty345112 жыл бұрын
You obviously have no idea what your talking about because the twin coil pick-ups of gibsons humbuckers produce a brighter tone than that of the single coil pick-ups on a Fender. I love when people on youtube talk about stuff they have no idea about.

I don't mean this as a way to tear him down - like that makes ME bigger - but I don't he can hear very well any more. I noticed it on the first 2004 Crossroads benefit. His tone was just... bad, for much of the concert. Right at the end, it got better - SOMEBODY tweaked it, maybe him. He's got a lot of that raspiness here too. I guess since Fender put your name on an amp, you got to play the damn thing too.
