NICE hi-hat work! That is an insane tempo of 16th notes to maintain with one hand. Smooth and effortless. I honestly think this is a unique skill you’ve cracked the code on. I’ve put years of work into this very thing. When I do it I’m hanging by a thread begging for the guitar solos to bring relief haha. Staying relaxed not allowing all that work to catch up with me is a technique that, so far, eludes me. Great job.

thanks! In this video the "code I cracked" on the hihat thing is that I'm not playing every note :) I skip the one where the snare hits and maybe a few others here and there, so I can use more of a "finger the first three notes, then let the next four bounce out, then just rest" kind of thing. that is, I try to make the hihat notes that are really exposed sound very convincing and then others I am just mushing through or skipping. More recently I've been really working on fast hihat 8ths/16ths playing every note in earnest using a consistent technique, but that tops out at 16th notes at 100 bpm or so..this would be the equivalent of 108 and even now I can't play this speed without skipping notes

Not bad at all. Definitely better than I can do. But no one covers this better than Joe Nocella
