Dickey is criminally underrated, great writer, great lead player. With Duane, he was insane, after Duane he carried that band and showed how well he could do, even if the band left the blues behind. Love ya, Dickey!

He is totally underrated, he should be ranked up there along with Duane, Clapton, Hendrix, etc...

He looks like an outlaw from the late 1800s.

My personal favorite guitarist. I feel that Dickey Betts is the most melodic of all the rock-generation guitarists. Lots of guys playing riff-based solos, Dickey can do that too, but nobody created melodic solos like that man.

First honest USoNAan i've heard! Yes, all rock, blues, comes from Celtic music. All those Sepos saying the Brits copied "their" music are full of shit. The roots go back to Celtic music, so we know who copied whom! Haing said that, people need to stop this bullshit, music doesn't belong to one country, one guitarist isn't "the greatest", it's not a bloody competition! Personally i absolutely love Dickey's music, he is probably the most melodic i have heard, just an incredible guitarist and songwriter, a big influence on me. Thank you Dickey for all those Sunday mornings walking my 2 awesome dogs on the Diamond Creek trail, under "Blue SKy"! Heaven is you and yor LP,

It´s strange that Great Betts only talk about BBking, Chuck Berry. Why don´t talk about Hank Wililams Sr, not Jr, Carl Perkins, Scott Moore , Chet atkins?. Also he talked about Blind lemmon... Djiago Reinhard, therefore his influences comes from Blues and Jazz, not from Country music. Country music is Hank Williams, Jimi Rodgers, Chet atkins, Carter family, Ernst Tubbs, Johnny Cash, Bob Wills... In Allman brothers you can only heard, Soul vocals style by Greg, Chicago blues, Rock blues, Santana double percusion and guitar style , San francisco psychedelic vibe like Grateful and Doors jazz rock approach , both on piano and guitar . You can not heard any country song , really, no cover, any reference to country styles neither in the instrumental nor in vocal. Morover Dick says that Country is England pipes, then fiddle sound, but this is absolutely false because Country since the begining is Blues also. Then , it seems that Dick wasn´t very interested in Country music really. However , Flying burrito brothers and Nitty gritty and Rolling Stones even, here is possible to mention Country music because you can heard that music clear . In Allmans only you can heard sometimes barrelhouse piano country , only a bit in some songs. That´s all. Charlie Daniels is Country blues progressive but Allmans is Chicago blues with Jazz rock oriented above all. In fact , the Duann slide guitar comes from Muddy Waters band and Elmore Chicago. The twin guitars in counterpoint is really an amazing discover for Dick and Duann, his trademark , and that´s why is hard to understand why Dick didn´t demand that fantastic idea in the following works. Duann was a genius, doubtless and with Dick were powerful.

Dickey is a genuine picker man........a real bad ass player from the heart. He and Duane sure made a great partnership playing under and over each other especially at the beginning of Mountain Jam
